What we like about this Alienware 16 Aurora gaming laptop
RTX 5050 mobile graphics card
The RTX 5050 mobile is a solid entry-level 50-series graphics card that’s a significant improvement over the previous-gen and a good option for 1080p at high settings, and can handle some 1440p, too. It features 2560 CUDA cores, 8GB of GDDR7 RAM, and base and boost clock speeds of 2235MHz and 2520MHz. On paper, it’s far superior to the 4050, and you’re getting access to DLSS 4 and MFG, which can help boost frame rates higher. For gaming in 1080p, it’s a great choice, but of course, the limiter for 1440p will be its 8GB of VRAM.
Intel Core 7-240H processor
This processor features 10 cores, 16 threads, a 2.5GHz base clock speed, which can be boosted to a very high 5.2GHz, and a fairly large 24MB L3 cache. It’s a good option for gaming, creative work such as video editing, rendering, and more, and its 16 threads can handle multiple applications running at once, without significant slowdowns.
Impressive screen
This WQXGA screen has an impressive 120Hz refresh rate, with 300 nits of brightness, and 100% sRGB color coverage. Now, for the price, that’s pretty good, but of course, if you spend more, you’ll come across brighter screens with higher percentages of DCI-P3 color coverage, which would be more suitable for content creators and designers. That being said, it’s still bright, high-res, and has a refresh rate that’ll allow for high fps gaming.
Decent amount of RAM
This build comes with 16GB of DDR5 RAM, which has 5600 MT/s speeds. While 32GB would be ideal, this amount of RAM will still keep things feeling responsive, and allow you to have multiple windows, tabs, and applications running at the same time, without grinding it grinding to a halt.
Incredible design
We really can’t get over just how well this laptop is designed, for both aesthetics and functionality. It’s one of the slimmest and streamlined gaming laptops we’ve come across, which makes it very portable and easy to take on the go. That being said, it’s also loaded with features designed to keep it running cool, but quiet, too. Small features like its anodized aluminum lid provide the extra touch of premium quality that makes laptops like these so appealing.
Who’s this deal for?
Coming in at $1,109.79, we think this is the best first laptop you could go for, that looks and performs the part. You’re getting Alienware’s top-tier build quality, a decent 50-series mobile GPU, a good processor, and a pretty impressive screen for just over $1,100. Considering some RTX 4050 options can hover around $1,000 at full price, it’s not much more cash to secure something significantly better.
