If you’re on the hunt for an RTX 5080 gaming laptop for a great price, then this could be just the deal for you. This HP OMEN MAX gaming laptop is currently on sale with $1,250 off at Newegg, and is now reduced from $3,299.99 to $2,049.99. Now, first things first, pricing this laptop at $3,299.99 seems a bit steep given its specs, so we’d take the huge discount with a pinch of salt. That being said, at just over $2000, it’s great value at its current price, and well worth considering, especially since it packs a high-end Intel Core Ultra processor, too.

Key features of this HP OMEN MAX Gaming Laptop

RTX 5080 mobile and Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX processor

First off, the RTX 5080 mobile is one of the best laptop graphics cards you can get for your money, and a very good option that’s capable of 4K gaming and handling very demanding creative tasks, too. It has 16GB of new and improved GDDR7 VRAM, and it’s built on Nvidia’s new Blackwell architecture, which boasts significant performance boosts across the board. Notably, it features DLSS4 with MFG, which can greatly increase perceived framerates in-game. The CPU is a powerhouse with a very high core and thread count (24+24), a large 36M L3 cache, a big boost clock speed of 5.4GHz, and a dedicated NPU with 13TOPS for improved AI performance and machine learning.

32GB of RAM and 1TB SSD

This laptop packs a large amount of high-speed RAM, which is going to be useful if you’re multitasking, running demanding creative applications, or playing games with huge asset libraries, like open-world titles, for example. Its 1TB SSD is good for a handful of games, but you’ll probably want to upgrade if you’re planning on using it for games and denser media files at the same time.

16-inch WQXGA display

The screen here is 2560 x 1600, which will look crisp and clear at this size, and it’s 240Hz with a 3ms response time, which is ideal for high-framerate gaming with minimal blur and ghosting. It’s also quite bright, coming in at 500 nits, and has 100% sRGB color, which is great for making games and content look vivid and vibrant.

Advanced cooling

This laptop features OMEN Temoest Cooling Pro, which brings together a large vapor chamber, various heat pipes, and liquid metal to help keep temperatures under control. As with many high-end laptops, this machine can dynamically adjust its cooling performance in real-time, ensuring that you’re not wasting energy or tolerating higher fan noise levels without needing to.

Things to consider

As far as RTX 5080 laptops go, this is a pretty well-priced option that scales back a little in some areas that are unlikely to bother most people. We’d say that if you’re a professional-level video editor, you may do better with an OLED screen, as it’ll showcase HDR content better and more accurately, and OLEDs tend to have better color range and accuracy, too. Another thing to consider is whether you actually need the power of the RTX 5080 or not. RTX 5070 Ti models have less VRAM, but they’re exceptional for 1440p gaming and good for most creative tasks. You can grab one for closer to $1,500 when on sale, in our experience. Check out our top gaming laptop deals below to see what’s out there.
