What’s special about this deal?
In short, this combination is excellent for gaming, and provides a level of future proofing since it’s built on the AM5 platform. The Ryzen 7 7800X3D is still up there with the best CPUs for gaming, and MSI in particular is well known for its exceptional motherboards. Be sure to check out our Ryzen 7 7800X3D review for more information.
Ryzen 7 7800X3D
Released back in April 2023, this processor was met with overwhelmingly positive reviews. That’s mostly due to its unique 3D cache, which essentially ‘stacks’ layers of memory to increase the size of the L3 cache. What that means is that you can store more data locally, which is what you need for faster frame-rates, loading times, smoother performance, and even faster rendering.
It boasts 8 cores, 16 threads, and a 5.0 GHz max boost clock. That’s more than enough for gaming, but for those of you who need a powerful CPU for non-gaming tasks, you may be better off with something like a AMD Ryzen 9 9900X, which has more cores and threads to work with.
MSI PRO B650-P WiFi ProSeries Motherboard
This motherboard is a B650-P, which is designed with performance and budget in mind. It’s packed with everything you would need at the heart of an AM5 build, but does scale back a little in some areas to keep it more wallet-friendly.
You’ve got support for DDR5 RAM, alongside 2 x M.2 PCIe 4.0 x4 slots, 6 x SATA 6Gb/s ports, USB 3.2 Gen 2×2. You’ll notice that it doesn’t have PCIe 5.0 on this, and in addition it doesn’t have the latest WIFI 7 either, choosing to go for WIFI 6E instead. To be honest, that’s not a bad thing, as WIFI 7 isn’t readily available everywhere anyway.
In terms of thermal solutions, you’ve got heatsinks and thermal pads across the board and near the M2 SSD slots to keep everything working optimally.
Overall, this is a great motherboard that has plenty to offer and will pair very nicely indeed with the Ryzen 7 7800X3D.
Is this deal for you?
I’d say this deal is be great for those looking to kick off a powerful AM5 gaming build, but who may not be interested in all of the latest-gen technology, at least not for a while. Unless you’re an enthusiast, there’s not a whole lot of point in going for the very top AM5 motherboards. They cost a lot of money and you won’t get the best out of them unless you pair them with PCIe Gen 5 NVMe SSDs, the absolute top end DDR5 RAM, and the latest CPUs and GPUs. You’ll also likely need crazy cooling too, as the components will no doubt run hot.
This is a sensible option that I think will appeal to most people, and coming in at $599.99, it’s well priced too.
