We’re not sure what’s more surprising, the fact that the Ryzen 5 9600X keeps dropping in price, or its price right now. Actually, we do because where it is now is cheaper than the older Ryzen 5 7600X. We’ve double and triple-checked, and Amazon’s new deal is that good.

AMD’s 9000 series has been pushing prices hard recently on Amazon, and the Ryzen 5 9600X has refused to sit still on price, regularly dropping to new lows. We didn’t see this latest deal coming, but it’s now just $185. Not only is it nearly $40 below its average Amazon price, but it’s also $21 cheaper than the older 7600X.

AMD Ryzen 5 9600X

6-Core, 12-Thread Unlocked Desktop Processor

Why we love the Ryzen 5 9600X

At this price, what’s not to love? A better performing and more power-efficient option than the Ryzen 5 7600X, the newer CPU smashes it on price as well. Any concerns about it being held back by power are outweighed by its value, which, if you’re building an entry-level system, is surely welcome.

  • Core specs – The Ryzen 5 9600X is the 9000 series' efficient and capable entry-level option, a 6-core, 12-thread CPU with a 3.9GHz base speed and 5.4GHz boost speed, and a low TDP of 65W.
  • Performance – The older Ryzen 5 7600X usually wins on price, but the 9600X beats it in all fields in this deal. Essentially, there’s no reason to pick the older CPU when it’s more expensive.
  • Socket AM5 – Opting for the Ryzen 5 9600X allows for multiple future upgrade options in the 9000 series and probably beyond, too, on AMD's latest Socket AM5 platform.
  • Cooler – No cooler is included, so you will need to pick one up.

Who is this Ryzen 5 9600X deal for?

Looking at an entry-level PC build on Socket AM5? Hold that basket, because the Ryzen 5 9600X just makes so much sense at its new lowest-ever price. A processor allowing for a lot of upgrade potential, and beating the previous generation across all aspects of performance and efficiency.

The 9600X may not be one of the best CPUs for gaming – the 9700X would be better – but you can absolutely use it for that in a good system for punchy mixed-use. If gaming is key, look at our picks for the best GPUs for the Ryzen 5 9600X. But either way, enjoy this excellent deal, getting you the best-ever value on a smart entry-level part.
