Now a testament to the longevity of Socket AM4 – and the priciness of current-gen systems – the Ryzen 7 5800X3D originally arrived in 2022 with an MSRP of $350. The 2026 10th Anniversary edition launched in June at the same price…before briefly rocketing to $382 on Amazon. Thankfully, that spike was only brief, and we’ve now spotted a dip below the MSRP. Available at $340, the $10 discount isn’t much, but sub-MSRP prices deserve attention, and this CPU is the jewel in AM4’s crown.

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D – 10th Anniversary Edition

8-core, 16-Thread Desktop Processor with AMD 3D V-Cache Technology

Why we like the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D

AM4 gaming gem

When the first iteration of the 5800X3D was discontinued in late 2024, Socket AM4 users mourned its loss. Understandably, since even in our 2025 review, we noted its “fantastic gaming performance”. The 10th anniversary edition has the same prowess, making it the Socket AM4 CPU for gaming (and only gaming).

X3D performance

The reason the Ryzen 7 5800X3D does so well? It’s 3D V-Cache technology. The CPU’s huge 100MB cache gives it instant access to more active game data, for faster frame generation without referencing the system RAM. This is incredibly efficient for gaming specifically, which makes this a very focused processor.

Socket AM4

Although it’s highly unlikely more Socket AM4 processors are released – especially given the engineering hoops AMD had to jump through for this 10th Anniversary 5800X3D – the AM4 platform is firmly established. Many motherboards still receive BIOS/UEFI updates, and if you’re building a cost-conscious gaming system, AM4 can still deliver in 2026.

What to consider before you buy

There are two reasons to buy the Ryzen 7 5800X3D 10th Anniversary Edition. First, you’re building a new Socket AM4 gaming system. Second, you’re going for pure gaming with a drop-in CPU upgrade. Both are valid, but what the 5800X3D is not good for is workstation/productivity-focused tasks.

In 2026, you are usually better off opting for a non-X3D 9000-Series CPU and Socket AM5 for a flexible daily PC. That does come at added cost, but the performance and upgrade potential are a different class. It’s also critical to note that this CPU has no integrated graphics, so you should check our pick of the best GPUs for the Ryzen 7 5800X3D if you don’t have one already.
