MSI MAG B860 Tomahawk WiFi performance

Since this motherboard is compatible with the Arrow Lake processors only, we paired it with the Core Ultra 9 285K and the RTX 4070 Ti. Here is how it performed in synthetic and gaming workflows.

Gaming performance

In Counter-Strike 2, we got 500 FPS, and in Cyberpunk 2077, which is more graphically demanding, we got 211 FPS with these components. The power delivered to the 285K while running these titles was 90.1 W and 135.5 W, respectively. So, there was no shortage of power being delivered to the processor, and it could consume as much as the workload demanded.

Synthetic performance

In Blender Monster, we got 261.96 points with a maximum temperature of 29.5°C and a MOS temperature of 36°C. What this means is that the onboard cooling solutions were doing their job perfectly. While running Blender, the 285K was pulling 174W of power, which, compared to the gaming power usage, is a lot.

However, what that means is the VRM design of this motherboard is more than capable of catering to resource-intensive workloads and doesn’t hold the 285K from performing at its best.

Who’s this deal for?

The Arrow Lake processors don’t have the best gaming output, but if productivity is of more concern to you, then this motherboard should pair excellently with any Arrow Lake processor to deliver the best output. It has all the bells and whistles you’d expect from a next-gen board, such as WiFi 7, high-speed ports, robust VRMs, excellent build quality, and more. In addition, the discount gives it even more value for money, and since the LGA 1851 platform was just introduced, it should last you a good couple of years.
