RX 7800 XT performance

Gaming performance

To test the gaming output of the RX 7800 XT we ran a handful of titles at 1080p, 1440p, and 4K. In Cyberpunk 2077, this GPU managed 140 FPS at 1080p, 91 FPS at 1440p, and 39 FPS at 4K. In a less graphically demanding title like CS2, it was able to churn out 319, 244, and 114 FPS at 1080p, 1440p, and 4K, respectively. What this means is that depending on the title, it can push 4K but the performance isn’t consistent. 1440p is the sweetspot for this graphics card.

Synthetic performance

To gauge the synthetic performance of this card, we ran Fire Strike Ultra, Time Spy Extreme, and Port Royal. These tests showcase how well a GPU handle rendering 4K frames with DX11, DX12, and real-time ray tracing, respectively.

In Fire Strike Ultra, the 7800 XT managed 12,331 and for comparison, the RTX 4070 Super, delivered 12,166 points. In Time Spy Extreme, which is more taxing, the 7800 XT churned out 9,080 and in Port Royal, we got 10,318 FPS. So, this GPU is can handle 4K frames and ray tracing but compared to its counterparts, it isn’t the best option out there.

Who’s this deal for

This deal is perfect for those who don’t want to spend a lot of money on a GPU upgrade and play FPS games at 1440p. This GPU can churn out high frames at 2K, which is what is important in first person shooter games but for creatives, it should also be fine as it got the lowest time in HandBrake Tears of Steel 4K render and the maximum FPS, compared to the RTX 4070 Super and RTX 3090.
