This laptop is from its 5i series, which sits nicely in the mid-range and offers good performance, but at a reasonable price-point. These are more accessible options for most people who wouldn’t class themselves as ‘enthusiasts’, but if that sounds more like you, I’d suggest checking out its Pro 7i and 9i series instead.

What we like about this gaming laptop

RTX 4070 mobile GPU: This card is similar to the mobile RTX 3080, and performs very well at FHD and QHD, especially if you’re using DLSS to boost the frames per second. It does well at rendering and other heavy duty tasks like video-editing too, making it a versatile option for most people.
Intel i9-14900HX: One of the best mobile CPUs on the market and often found in higher-end laptops, this 14th gen Intel processor packs 24 cores (8p and 16e) and 32 threads, with a boost clock of 5.8 GHz and L3 cache of 36MB. All in all, it’s a bit of unit for both gaming and multi-tasking, and another versatile choice that will allow for strong single and multi-threaded performance.
Expansive display: This screen is a touch bigger than most, as it’s WQXGA resolution. What that means is that its 16:10 aspect ratio so it’s a little taller than most screens you find on monitors. This gives you more immersion, but also more room to work with if you’re using multiple windows and so on. 16-inches is also a great size, and stops the laptop getting too bulky and less portable.
165hz refresh rate: Another win here is the refresh rate of the screen, which should technically allow for up to 165 frames per second, depending on the game and the settings. Good for fast paced gaming.
Decent storage and RAM: You’ve got a 1TB SSD in this, which is more than enough for a decent sized gaming library. If it’s too small, an easy upgrade is simply an external SSD, which are practically always on sale. 32GB of DDR5 RAM is also great to see, and should ensure this laptop will handle both gaming and multi-tasking with ease.
Understated style: Lenovo does well here, as its designs tread the line between gaming and business very well. There’s just enough to tell you it’s a gaming laptop, without making it too out of place in a working environment. Great for those who want to use this professionally and for their downtime too.

Who’s this deal great for?

This a solid option for someone who’s going to use it for both gaming and productivity. The RTX 4070 mobile is an excellent graphics card that does well at 1440p and higher fps, but you’ve also got a very punchy CPU that’ll handle intensive tasks with ease. Add that to the fact it looks bang in the middle between a gaming and business laptop, and you’ve got something that really ticks all the boxes for most people. It is still a little pricey, even with the deal, and RTX 4070 desktops are an affordable alternative that pack more performance for the price than their mobile counterparts. As always, we’d advise that if you’re going for an RTX 4070 laptop, make sure you’re going to be using its portability to the most effect – otherwise, RTX 4070 desktops await!
