Mining is a demanding task that has created a lot of problems for GPUs over the last few years. After the rise of card prices at the end of 2021, very few gamers want to know anything about mining. However, the possibility still remains in the game, and the question many are wondering at the outset of new technology is if the 7900 XTX mining capabilities are worth the effort.

The RX 7900 XT is a 20Gb GDDR6 GPU with 320-bit bus width, which would make it a great mining GPU out of specs alone. However, before taking into account any high specs, miners look at profitability and performance per dollar ratio. If we examine the specs and the $899 MSRP of the RX 7900 XT GPU, this would make it a much too-expensive GPU for mining purposes, considering that miners tend, even today, to buy GPUs, such as the RTX 3060 Ti, or even the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER.

What makes a GPU good for mining?

In cryptocurrency mining, powerful computers solve complex mathematical problems in order to validate transactions and add them to the blockchain, which is a distributed ledger that records all transactions. Miners are rewarded for their work with small amounts of the cryptocurrency they are mining.

GPU mining can be more efficient than CPU mining, as GPUs are specifically designed to handle large amounts of data and can perform many calculations simultaneously. This makes them well-suited for mining tasks, which often involve solving many small calculations in unison.

Having a GPU with large VRAM memory, wide bandwidth, and fast frequencies, usually end up in fast hash rates. This is what will determine how well a GPU performs in mining environments.

The YouTube mining content creators Dizzy Mining upload a video where they show the RX 7900 XT’s behavior when mining. Thanks to that video we were able to get to a solid conclusion. With the increase in the memory bus from 256 to 320 bits in the new GPU, the hash rate of the AMD graphics card increases a lot when compared to the previous 6900 XT 65Mh/s. Now, it can get to around 90Mh/s.

That said, though, with the current state of Ethereum mining and the total price of the RX 7900 XT GPU, we can’t recommend getting this graphics card for any form of crypto mining.
