The RX 6700 XT works great in both 1440p and 1080p gaming, despite being an older card. This is largely thanks to its hefty 12GB of GDDR6 VRAM, which can help it push high settings in many games at 1440p. However, if you’re looking to get more than 90-100 FPS in 1440p, this might not be the best option. In fact, we would strongly recommend opting for the newer RX 7600 XT, which we have tested extensively and awarded a solid 3/5 score. This card features 16GB VRAM to blitz through 1080p and 1440p resolution easily, providing you have FSR enabled.
The RX 6700 XT’s 2581MHz boost clock speed, 192-bit memory bus and 384.0 GB/s bandwidth still stack up in 2024, however it’s ever so slightly more expensive than the newer, and arguably better, RX 7600 XT – another serious consideration. Let’s take a closer look.
The 6700 XT is still decent at 1440p
Despite the fact there are newer, more powerful cards out there, the RX 6700 XT is still a worthy consideration for those wanting solid 1440p performance.
Is RX 6700 XT good for 1440p?
There’s no doubt that the RX 6700 XT is decent for 1440p, thanks to the aforementioned VRAM and the fact it has 93MB of L3 cache. But again, it’s hard to recommend this card when the cheaper RX 7600 XT offers decent 1440p performance for less. In our benchmarking tests, which stress the card natively without AMD’s FSR technology switched on, the RX 7600 XT ripped its way through Doom Eternal with averages of 221fps in 1080p and 158fps in 1440p.
In other games like The Finals, the card averaged 141fps in 1080p and 87fps in 1440p at “Epic” settings. It struggled a bit more with more graphically-intensive games like Cyberpunk – especially at native 1440p with Ultra settings. However if you’re smart with your settings and ensure FSR is on, the RX 6700 XT is a great choice.
As is the case with many AMD GPUs, you don’t really want to consider the RX 6700 XT if you’re keen on the best ray tracing performance. In that case, we would probably point you towards the more expensive RTX 4070 Ti Super, which is one of the best cards you can buy right now.

RX 6700 XT 1440p gaming performance
Combining the RX 6700 XT and a capable older generation CPU like the Intel i9-10900K CPU, the GPU will be output most games at over 60 FPS while at 1440p. In some less intensive games, the card will deliver 100 fps at native 1440p. Of course, some titles stand out as particularly demanding in terms of their frame rate requirements. And for those games, you’ll likely see lower, although playable frames for the RX 6700 XT, in similar vein to the performance we’ve seen with the RX 7600 XT.
On the other hand, games like Valorant, Rocket League, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive can see average frame rates above 200fps – clearly indicating that they are well-optimized for the RX 6700 XT GPU. So, if you’re not looking to run AAA games at Ultra settings and instead are more into competitive-gaming titles that require less stress on the GPU, the 6700 XT is still a viable, if not recommended choice.
What resolution is best for 6700 XT?
The AMD 6700 XT, in our view, is similar to the RX 7600 XT in terms of the resolutions its targeting. We’d advise those with this card to play games comfortably at 1080p or at 1440p resolution with FSR enabled.

The RX 6700 XT is good for 1440p and 1080p resolutions, across a wide range of games. That is assuming you have a complementary CPU to help deliver its potential. However, we’d recommend opting for the RX 7600 XT if you want an affordable, newer and arguably better card, providing you’re making full use of AMD’s FSR technology.
