It's a resolution that's more common now, but is this older gen card capable?

6700 XT good for 1440p - hero

Last Updated on

The RX 6700 XT works great in both 1440p and 1080p gaming. Thanks to the 12GB of GDDR6 VRAM this graphics card can push high settings in 1440p.

However, if you’re looking to get more than 90-100 FPS in 1440p gaming, this might not be the best option.

As mentioned, the RX 6700 XT features 12GB GDDR6 memory, with a 2581MHz boost clock speed, a 192-bit memory bus, and 384.0 GB/s bandwidth, among other features. These specs alone already talk perfectly to the performance of the GPU.

Additionally, thanks to AMD’s cache memory fixation, the GPU also has 96MB of L3 cache. That is a very large number that definitely increases the speed of this card’s performance. When compared directly to Nvidia GPUs such as the 3060 Ti or the 3060, the RX 6700 XT wi[es the floor with them.

This GPU is capable of amazing performance at 1440p that its Nvidia counterpart just can’t achieve. However, everything has a downside.

Back when this GPU was released, AMD was barely developing its solution to battle ray tracing and AI graphics solutions. And as we all know, even today, they haven’t mastered the field yet. So the 6700 XT finds its weak spot when it meets strong ray tracing-enhanced video games. In those specific cases, Nvidia GPU performs better.

RX 6700 XT 1440p gaming performance

Combining the RX 6700 XT and a capable older generation CPU like the Intel i9-10900K CPU, the GPU can provide amazing performance hitting constantly over 60 FPS while at 1440p. In some games, the card can even push titles to 100 fps.

Of course, some titles stand out as particularly demanding in terms of their frame rate requirements. And for those games, you’ll likely see lower, although playable frames for the RX 6700 XT.

On the other hand, games like Valorant, Rocket League, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive can see average frame rates above 200fps – clearly indicating that they are well-optimized for the AMD RX 6700 XT GPU.

What resolution is best for 6700 XT?

The AMD 6700 XT can support up to 8K resolutions. Although for optimum performance, it’s best to use it for 1080p or 1440p resolutions.

PC Guide Expert View

The RX 6700 XT is good for 1440p and 1080p resolutions, across a wide range of games. That is assuming you have a complementary CPU to help deliver its potential. If you’re upgrading a rig that is several years old or looking to build a new system that needn’t play at 5K then the card is a good choice.
