The AMD RX 7900 XT is equivalent to Nvidia’s RTX 4080. These two GPUs offer similar specs and performance. And thanks to AMD’s architectural enhancements the 7900 XT can even battle the 4080 in ray tracing-demanding video games; although it is not that strong to win over team green.

In this article, we will compare these two GPUs to show how equivalent they are in performance. To begin the comparison, we need to talk about pricing. Both the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 and AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT have comparable specifications and performance, but they are priced significantly differently.

The RTX 4080 costs $1,199 while the RX 7900 XT is priced at $899. Despite the price difference, both graphics cards are capable of running games with ray tracing enabled at 4K resolution. This guide will help you decide between the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT and the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080.

PC Guide Expert Opinion

By looking at the specs we can confirm that both GPUs are quite similar. AMD takes the head in some aspects such as the number of computing units and ray accelerators, but the 4080 takes it back with a higher clock speed and newer VRAM memory type.

Both NVIDIA and AMD support ray tracing, though NVIDIA’s implementation has had longer to develop and has made use of artificial intelligence-assisted calculations. When paired with Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS), it allows for smoother gameplay with all these advanced features enabled.

While AMD has similar technologies, its performance in ray tracing falls a bit behind NVIDIA’s. This is likely due to the fact that AMD is still working to catch up in this area. AMD’s approach to infinity cache gives them quite a good boost to beat the 4080 and perform better in some games.
