Every now and then, a small indie game surprises everyone with its success. This time, it's a game called PEAK – a co-op climbing title that quietly launched last week, on June 16. It has become a sleeper hit, much to the developer’s surprise. If you head over to SteamDB, you'll see that within just six days, PEAK has reached a peak concurrent player count of 102,799. The game started with just 2,184 players at launch and has seen steady growth since then.

On top of that, the game's publisher, Aggro Crab, shared an update on their official X account, confirming that PEAK has sold one million copies within its first six days, which is an incredible achievement. And this is likely just the beginning, as there's a good chance the game could sell over two million copies before the end of the month. It may sound like a lot, but PEAK has already surprised everyone in many ways.

What is PEAK all about?

PEAK offers a simple but very exciting concept. You play as a nature scout who is stranded on a mysterious island. The only way to escape is to climb the huge mountain that sits in the center of the island. You can either take on this challenge alone or team up with friends, as up to four players can join together. Teamwork also plays a very important role, as players can grab each other's hands, set up climbing ropes, and use climbing spikes to make the journey easier for their teammates. It looks to expand on the idea of Chained Together, another successful co-op climbing game, where one fall can cost you your attempt.

The mountain is dangerous and divided into four different biomes. Each biome has its own set of obstacles that test your skills and patience. You also need to manage your character's health carefully. As you get hurt, your stamina drops, making it even harder to climb higher. You’ll also need to keep an eye out for items like energy drinks and climbing gear, as every small item can make a huge difference.

One thing that makes PEAK stand out is its changing map. Every 24 hours, a new version of the island appears, giving players a fresh challenge each day. Even if you fail one day, you can come back and try again with a new layout the next day. This daily rotation helps keep the game fresh as players always have something different to look forward to.

If you’re interested in trying the game, you can get PEAK for only $4.95 right now on Steam. It is usually listed for $7.99, but thanks to the ongoing discount, you can save 38%. However, do keep in mind that the discount won’t be already for long (at the time of writing), so hopefully you’ve spotted this in time!
