“Absolute slop” AI-generated mod for Oblivion Remastered splits the opinion of players
Table of Contents
Oblivion Remastered doesn’t have any official modding tools yet, but that hasn’t stopped the game from getting a whole host of fan-made mods. The Elder Scrolls series has long had one of the best PC modding communities, well before the advent of AI. The topic of AI-generated content generally splits opinion, and that’s no different with a recent Oblivion Remastered mod that adds AI art into the game.
A mod called ‘Multiple Lore-Friendly Loading Screens‘ is now available for download on Nexus Mods. It adds “over 45 AI-generated” loading screens to the game that “seamlessly loop”. Its creator, a user by the name of Stirius2, even updated it recently to fine-tune the characters included in the screens.
The creator makes it clear that AI was used
You can probably tell just from looking at the screenshots, but even if you were unsure, Stirius2 makes it abundantly clear that the images are AI-generated. Of course, this didn’t stop complaints from flooding in. One user says that “The aesthetic is totally off” and many others question the “Lore-Friendly” aspect of the mod, considering the AI doesn’t always get characters and outfits right.
On the other side of the argument, one person says that “This is actually a really cool use of AI,” while pointing out it is just a free mod. It’s clear, though, that the majority of comments are negative. The mod has over 700 unique downloads at the time of writing and 39 endorsements.

Stirius2 also says they’d “love to do” a separate mod that incorporates community-drawn loading screens in the future. Of course, that would be a lot more work, but it would be nice to see a community effort to make something like that happen.
