Amazon Prime Big Deal Days is drawing to a close, but there’s still time to pick up a new gaming laptop for less. Acer has already impressed with its Acer Nitro 5 deal, but now it looks like a more mid-range option is going for $200 less in the sales.

Originally $999.99, you can now score this Acer Nitro 16 gaming laptop for just $799.99, and as you’ll see, that’s not bad considering what you’re getting for the money. Here’s all the features and specs worth knowing about before making you decision.

AMD Ryzen 5 7640HS Hexa-Core CPU | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 Laptop GPU | 16″ WUXGA 165Hz IPS Display | 8GB DDR5 | 512GB Gen 4 SSD | WiFi 6E | RGB Backlit KB | AN16-41-R148

GPU and CPU

This gaming laptop has Nvidia’s entry level 40-series GPU, the RTX 4050. This GPU is actually pretty decent for 1080p gaming thanks to its 6BG of VRAM and a boost clock of up to 1681 MHz. Generally speaking anything above 2500 MHz is going to better for higher resolution, higher framerate gaming, but with a max graphics power of 140W, this laptop should make short work of most modern titles at 1080p.

When it comes to the CPU, you’ve got an AMD Ryzen 5 7640HS Hexa-Core, with a processor speed of 4.30GHz, that can be increased to a maximum of 5.0 GHz according to AMD. It’s a good CPU that was only released in April 2023, has 6 Cores and 12 Threads, and should work well for gaming.

RAM and storage

In terms of RAM and storage, you’ve got 8GB of DDR5 here, which is the latest and best version of RAM you can get. DDR5 massively improved on the number of MHz DDR4 could handle – in many cases it’s double. This translates well into overall performance, and should be clearly visible with faster boot-up, shutdown times, and smoother opening of programs.

On the SSD front, this laptop features a pretty big 512GB Gen 4 SSD, that’s a decent size for most of your games, but not massive. We’d probably recommend an external SSD if you’re planning on playing AAA-titles, as they can take up to 100MB of space nowadays.

Display

On to the screen, which is a 165hz, 16-inch, IPS display, with a resolution of 1920 x 1200. This all adds up to something that has wide viewing angles and can handle 165 fps at 1080p. This is the type of combination that’s great for people who are playing more competitive titles, such as first-person shooters or even racing games.

It has a 16:10 aspect ratio too, which essentially gives you a bit more vertical real-estate. That’s good for gaming, sure, but probably a little better for work in all honesty. If you find yourself having multiple windows open, this combined with its fairly big 16″ screen could come in handy.

Special features

Unlike some of its more entry-level Nitro options, this one has an RGB keyboard that really makes it stand out from the crowd. Love it or hate it, having some RGB really makes these laptops more a statement piece – and they look great when paired with other RGB peripherals too.

Overall, this is an excellent and affordable gaming laptop for someone who wants to move on from more entry-level options, and dip their toe into something a bit more capable. Considering Prime Day is coming to a close, it may be worth jumping on this sooner rather than later if you’re interested.
