AMD just added an AI chatbot to its GPU software, and we tested to see if it’s any good

Just as Nvidia’s RTX 50 series focused heavily on AI improvements, AMD’s latest RX 9070 series GPUs also come with a few AI tricks up their sleeves. Of course, the focus on AI isn’t as strong as that of the industry-leading AI company, but there are still some neat improvements. One of them is the all-new FSR 4 upscaling technology, Team Red’s first to use a neural network, bringing better AI capabilities that close the gap to Nvidia.
However, that isn’t the only AI improvement the new GPUs come with, as AMD has also introduced a new AI chatbot feature called AMD Chat, along with a few other AI tools, which will be exclusive to RX 9070 series GPUs and function as an add-on in AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition. Since we’ve got an RX 9070 XT in our office, we thought we’d give it a try.

AMD Chat supports text and image generation
AMD has released a new version of its AMD Software, Adrenalin Edition 25.3.1, and along with all the FSR 4 and FMF 2.1 improvements, the release notes mention a GPU-accelerated, local offline chatbot. AMD Chat comes with text and image generation capabilities, helps users with queries about their AMD hardware, and even enables key features in the AMD graphics card software.

- AI Enhanced Features in AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition
- Support is exclusively on AMD Radeon RX 9070 Series graphics cards.
- AMD Chat
- AMD Chat is a GPU-accelerated, local offline chatbot with text and image generation capabilities.
- AMD Chat can answer common questions about a user's AMD hardware and enable key features in AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition.
- AMD Image Inspector
- AMD Image Inspector leverages AI to help AMD accelerate game quality improvements by capturing text and image diagnostic data.
The feature is quite similar to Nvidia’s ‘Chat with RTX’ which is supported on RTX 30 series or newer cards. However, Nvidia’s AI chatbot is significantly more powerful, allowing users to train custom models, integrate AI into games, develop and run AI apps, and much more. In contrast, AMD Chat appears to be more of a surface-level AI assistant.
How good is AMD Chat?
The first thing to stomach is that AMD Chat is an optional upgrade that takes up over 25 GB of storage space. We didn’t expect such a relatively hefty download, but here we are. If you want to download it, go to the System tab in AMD Software and click the ‘Manage Updates’ button to open up the new AMD Install Manager. Again, this feature is exclusive to RX 9070 series cards; we’re currently using the ASUS Prime Radeon RX 9070 XT.
We asked the AI a bunch of questions, starting off with “What is my GPU temperature?” as prompted. It correctly identified our primary GPU as the RX 9070 XT, along with its temperature of 45.4 Celsius. Nothing too impressive here. We then tried to see if it thinks AMD is better than Nvidia, but we got a very PR “I cannot provide information about competitor products” answer.
Other things we tasked AMD Chat with include telling us more about the RX 9070 XT, asking for instructions to toggling settings, and even a math equation (which it breezed through by the way, including its working).
Overall, it feels like AMD Chat is a useful tool, partly for making it easier to find options in AMD Software and partly for the usual AI chatbot interaction. We wouldn’t exactly say it’s a replacement for the likes of ChatGPT and DeepSeek, but it’s a neat tool to always have with you if you’re lucky enough to have one of the new RX 9000 series GPUs.
Another feature worth playing around with is the advertised image generation, which generally looks and works the way alternative AI art methods do. After requesting an image of the “perfect” graphics card, it returned with its efforts in about 10 seconds; not bad.
There’s also the Image Inspector
Apart from AMD Chat, another AI enhancement in the latest AMD Software is AMD Image Inspector, an AI-powered tool that analyzes in-game visuals and gathers diagnostic data to help developers identify graphical issues and optimize performance. So, while Nvidia might have had a big lead against AMD in the GPU market, it seems that AMD is trying to catch up, and we have seen GPU market shares demonstrate that things are slowly changing for AMD. The latest update is live, and you can download it from the official AMD website.
