AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D continues to outsell the 9000 series on Amazon as price drops come in clutch

AMD has been dominating the gaming CPU market for a while now. Things only got better when it unveiled its X3D technology with stacked V-Cache, giving gamers a processor designed with them in mind. We first saw this in the popular Ryzen 7 5800X3D, and Team Red has enjoyed success with its follow-ups: the 7800X3D and 9800X3D.
The high demand for the 9800X3D led AMD to ramp up production of X3D. The technology also continues to be used in the brand’s high-end Ryzen 9 models, targeting creators and gamers alike. However, even as the latest 9000 series chips are more readily available after a period of stock issues, last-gen 7800X3D is still on top according to Amazon US sales charts.

7800X3D is the best-selling CPU on Amazon US
At the time of writing, the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D can be bought on Amazon for $385. This 13% price reduction, down from its $449 MSRP, is one of the reasons why the 7000 series CPU continues to sell well. There’s no motherboard compatibility disparity here either, as both the 7000 and 9000 series processors fit AMD’s latest AM5 socket. Recent reports from German retailer Mindfactory show AMD dominating in Europe, and it’s the same in the U.S. on Amazon.

AMD chips occupy the top 10 slots, while the Intel Core Ultra 7 265K is the first processor on the list from Team Blue. It’s worth keeping in mind that Intel CPU sales rely more on prebuilt systems, as it has fallen behind in the DIY market. The 265K is a notable outlier; a surge in its popularity has been spurred on by a recent price cut across all major retailers. The next Intel chips on the list are the 14900K and 12700K at #19 and #20, respectively.
We’ve already been arguing for a while that Intel needs an X3D equivalent to compete with AMD on the gaming front. However, until that happens, or Intel answers back with something new after a depressed period, we imagine Team Red to stay on top.
