AMD Ryzen 9 9950X easily beats the 7950X in multi-core test, even with a cheap air cooler

Now that the Ryzen 9000 series has been delayed, we have a little longer to wait until the next-gen Zen 5 CPUs are available to buy. On the bright side, this gives us more time to take a look at benchmark leaks in anticipation of launch. One of the latest leaks comes in the form of a Cinebench R23 test, hitting an impressively high score without the help of a high-end CPU cooler.
The Ryzen 9 9950X is AMD’s next flagship desktop processor and will be the go-to choice for enthusiasts who wish to pack in as much power as possible. If we were to pick out the best CPU cooler for the 9950X, we’d generally go with an AIO, but this benchmark seems to show great performance on a cheap ~$50 alternative.
9950X multi-core benchmark with Deepcool AG620
This new Cinebench test has been spotted by 9550pro on X, sourced from QQ, a Chinese instant messenger. In the screenshot below, the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X 16-Core Processor scores an impressive 44,901. The CPU cooler is not specified in the screenshot but is reportedly the DeepCool AG620, a budget 120mm air cooler.

Clocking in at 5.19GHz, it’s well above any of the other rankings snapped. We can instead compare this to 7950X Cinebench R23 multi-core tests, with the 7000 series chip scoring 38,657 at 5.20GHz. That’s a 16% increase as it stands, but we’d like to see the 9950X benchmarked on a better cooler for comparison; we’re not exactly asking for extreme overclocking and liquid nitrogen here.
Looking at reviews of the AG620, Tom’s Hardware noted that it offers “reasonable value” at just $55 back when it launched last year. They tested it with an Intel i9-13900K, so this little air cooler seems to have a lot to prove. Finding this specific model in the US has proven it be a struggle, but we did spot it on Overclockers UK for £49.99.
