After the success of the RX 9070 and the RX 9070 XT, which were competing with Nvidia's mid-range offerings, the RTX 5070 and RTX 5070 Ti, AMD has set its sights on the budget GPU market segment.

At Computex 2025, AMD revealed the RX 9060 XT, which will compete with the RTX 5060 Ti, but like we saw before, AMD's aggressive pricing and claims to better performance, which were proven true with the RX 9070 XT, seem to have taken all the spotlight.

This graphics card will have two variants: a 16GB option, which is priced at $349, and an 8GB variant, which has a price tag of $299. Even at a glance, the 16GB variants seem like a better option compared to the price of the RTX 5060 Ti, which is $379.

In addition, AMD claims that the RX 9060 XT is 6% faster than the 5060 Ti at 1440p, which, if true, will put the latter in hot water. Team Red calls the XT “the fastest graphics card” under $350.

AMD playing its cards right?

The folks over at PC Gamer managed to sit down with the senior VP and general manager of computing and graphics, Jack Huynh, and asked him about their decision regarding the prices of these new cards.

Jack Huynh commented:

It’s part of strategy, building scale. We want to be as aggressive as possible, right? And offer a tremendous value proposition to all our fellow gamers.”

“I think building scale is the number one priority, and it was [about] launching the product when it’s ready. Don’t rush. My philosophy is, when you launch a product, it’s forever… so I think we just want to provide the best experience, as aggressive as possible.”

This gives us an insight into how AMD is looking at the landscape, and with the momentum already built from the previous GPU launch, all AMD has to do is capitalize on that to grab more market share from Nvidia and gain more trust from the community.

The RX 9060 XT will drop on June 5th, and whether it'll be able to outshine the RTX 5060 Ti, only time will tell. However, with all the focus on dominating the mid-range and budget market segment, AMD is also in a good place with gamers worldwide, who feel that Team Green isn't on their side anymore.

In addition, if they ensure the availability of the RX 9060 XT is better than how it was for the RX 9070 XT and RX 9070, AMD will have all the bases covered, and the only element left will be the performance, which Team Red sounds pretty confident about.
