AMD warns of FreeSync crash with “multiple high resolution-monitors” in latest driver update
Table of Contents
FreeSync is a very useful feature that can be found on certain gaming monitors, along with some laptops and TVs. Its purpose is to prevent screen tearing, stuttering, and input latency. Though this is generally a good thing, AMD users with a multi-monitor setup may experience issues related to FreeSync.
AMD has just released updated drivers for its AMD Radeon graphics cards. AMD Adrenaline Edition 25.5.2 comes with specific support for EA Sports’ newly released title, F1 25. Despite a host of new features and fixes being added, there are a couple of known issues that users need to be aware of.
Multiple monitors and multiple problems
According to the official AMD Software page, users can expect to see some stutter and lower than expected performance when using alt-tab and streaming to Discord with a multiple-monitor setup. More seriously, those using multiple high-resolution monitors may experience an intermittent crashing problem.
Known Issues

- Stutter and lower than expected performance may be observed when using alt-tab and streaming to Discord with multiple monitors.
- Intermittent system crash may be observed while using multiple high-resolution monitors with AMD FreeSync™ on Radeon™ RX 9000 series graphics products.
The issues with intermittent crashing appear to be related to monitors supporting AMD FreeSync when using AMD Radeon 9000 series graphics cards. At the moment, this only encompasses the RX 9070 XT and RX 9070, as the RX 9060 XT is yet to go on sale.
This crash bug seems to be specific to users of two or more high-resolution monitors with AMD FreeSync compatibility using a Radeon 9000 series GPU. Users affected by this issue may wish to wait until a fix is available or perhaps switch to using a single monitor until the problem is resolved.

No timeline for a fix for this problem has been issued, but AMD Software: Adrenaline Edition 25.5.2 is considered to be an optional update. If you are likely to be affected by the crash bug, then this update can be safely skipped. Unless you particularly want to play F1 25.
