For a while now, there have been rumors and speculations about AMD planning to release two new entry-level RDNA 3 GPUs.
As we reported last week, it was speculated that the manufacturer would be rolling out RX 7400 and RX 7300, which were supposed to be entry-level GPUs based on the Navi 33 die. However, according to a recent source, it looks like those plans have been dropped, at least for now.
Entry-level 7000 series graphics card dropped for RX 8000 series
According to a recent report from Benchlife, AMD seems to have canceled the new RDNA 3 graphics cards – or at least put the GPUs on hold for now. This is because the RX 7400 and RX 7300 haven’t been spotted on any AIB partner’s lists for development. “Radeon RX 7400 and RX 7300 are currently not on the development list of any AIB partners. This is a fact that we know,” the post on the Benchlife said. This means if these GPUs were being developed, they have been taken off the list at the moment.
The reason behind AMD pulling the plug (maybe temporarily) is the upcoming RX 8000 series, which is the next mainstream line of graphics cards. “As mentioned earlier, everyone is currently busy with the next generation of Radeon graphics cards based on the RDNA 4 GPU architecture,” the post clarified.
In any case, AMD has been making some changes to its previous series of GPUs. For instance, last week, there was a report on IT Home that claimed that AMD was discontinuing some RDNA 2 graphic cards, including the RX 6600, RX 6600 XT, and RX 6650 XT. In that report, we mentioned that AMD was making these changes to prepare for the next generation of GPUs.
AMD’s next major launch is the RX 8000 series lineup. Aside from a few specs, not many details are known about these RDNA 4 GPUs. As per recent speculation, the GPUs will be released in early 2025, though this has not been confirmed by AMD.
