Apple analyst explains when MacBook Air with new M5 chip is likely to release
Table of Contents
October 15 saw the launch of the Apple M5. The powerful system-on-a-chip (SoC) is the latest in Apple’s silicon series and places emphasis on improved AI performance. The M5 features in three Apple products – the MacBook Pro M5, iPad Pro M5, and Vision Pro M5 – all of which are currently available for pre-order. You may notice that the MacBook Air hasn’t been upgraded just yet.
Apple’s cheaper, more slimline MacBook Air was upgraded to M4 earlier this year, in March, while the M4 came to the Pro series in November last year. So, you’re probably seeing a pattern here. Well-known Apple analyst Mark Gurman predicts that the M5 upgrade will come to the MacBook Air next spring.
MacBook Air with M5 should come out in spring 2026
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman is a steady source for Apple news via his Power On newsletter. He claims that updated MacBook Air models (two of them, codenamed J813 and J815) will be released next spring. Apple produces the Air in two sizes: 13-inch and 14-inch, while the MacBook Pro is available in 14-inch and 16-inch.

It’s important to point out that only the 14″ MacBook Pro got upgraded to M5, so we’re still waiting for the larger 16″ M5. Presumably, this will release once Apple launches its M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. This would be the same as previous generations, for example, the current 16″ MacBook Pro comes fitted with either an M4 Pro or M4 Max chip, not the standard M4.
Ahead of the MacBook Pro M5 release date next week, he has also provided some predictions for Apple’s upcoming launches. Speaking on the future of the MacBook Pro, he claims the next-gen M6 model will feature an OLED panel. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard this; it will be the first MacBook with OLED, and the news broke thanks to leaks from Samsung Display, who are slated to produce the panel for Apple.
We should also see a new Mac Studio, Mac mini, and two Mac monitors coming in the future. The current Mac Studio comes with either the M4 Max or M3 Ultra chips, while the latest Mac mini is available with the M4 or M4 Pro.
