For those unaware, Immersive Videos is Apple’s proprietary format for 3D video content recorded in 8K resolution, 180 degrees, and Spatial Audio, designed to run exclusively on the Vision Pro. With the Vision Pro, Apple has been pushing the idea of immersive content, with examples like recording Spatial Video on the iPhone and watching it on the headset, and even new third-party tools like a special Blackmagic camera and DaVinci Resolve support to boost Immersive Video production.

However, until now, there has been no proper channel or method to manage these immersive videos. Today, Apple has released a brand new app for Mac and Vision Pro called the Apple Immersive Video Utility app, to help users manage immersive videos and content on Vision Pro and Mac. Apple Immersive Video Utility is available for free in the App Store for both macOS and visionOS, but it is currently limited to U.S. English.

Here's what the new Immersive Video Utility app offers

The Apple Immersive Video Utility app essentially allows you to import, organize, package, and review Apple Immersive Video files on a Mac. You can then connect one or more Vision Pro devices and go through your immersive video playlist, and there is even a synchronized playback option for multi-device viewing sessions.

Import and Manage Immersive Video Files
Create playlists to sort, organize, and search the Apple Immersive Video files in your library.

Share Your Apple Immersive Videos
Share your Immersive Videos with Vision Pro users with file types that are simple to download and import.

Inspect and Modify Metadata
Scan the dynamic and static metadata of Immersive Video files. Modify, swap, or manipulate the package content to meet your post-production requirements.

Stream to Apple Vision Pro
Connect one or more Vision Pro devices to stream your playlists. For larger groups, use synchronized playback to manage multi-device viewing sessions.

It took Apple quite some time to come up with a proper “gallery” for all your immersive video content, considering it’s been over a year since the Vision Pro came out. Perhaps the launch of this new app ties into the rumors of a Vision Pro 2 arriving this year, but that's just speculation on our part. That said, you'll need a Mac with an M1 chip or later, running macOS 15.0 or above, to download the Apple Immersive Video Utility app.
