If you’re looking for an excellent gaming laptop with a stunning display and a powerful processor at a great price, then this is a deal worth checking out. This ASUS ROG Strix G17 gaming laptop has recently had a few big price drops on Amazon, and is now down to its best-ever price. With an original list price of $2,199.99, it’s now a touch over $780 off and down to just $1,417.89. That’s a great price, considering this laptop packs the still impressive RTX 4070 mobile graphics card and a Ryzen 9 7945HX processor, which has a massive core and thread count, L3 cache, and very high boost clock speed. Additionally, it features a stunning QHD, 240Hz display with excellent DCI-P3 color coverage, making it ideal for both gaming and creative work.

ASUS ROG Strix G17 (2023) Gaming Laptop – GeForce RTX 4070

17.3” QHD 240Hz, AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX, 16GB DDR5, 1TB PCIe SSD, Wi-Fi 6E, Windows 11, G713PI-DS94 Eclipse Gray

Key features of this ASUS ROG Strix G17 Gaming Laptop

RTX 4070 mobile graphics card

The RTX 4070 mobile was released back in early 2023 and is still an excellent graphics card for 1080p and 1440p gaming, and moderately demanding non-gaming tasks, like video editing. It features 8GB of GDDR6, a 128-bit bus, and 4608 CUDA cores. When it comes to DLSS, you’re getting a lot of the latest features; however, it lacks support for the 50-series exclusive multi-frame generation, as this card is built on the older Ada Lovelace architecture.

AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX processor

This is a powerful, high-end, well-rounded laptop processor that’s excellent for gaming, heavy multitasking, and demanding creative workloads. It features a very large core and thread count (16 + 32), a very big boost clock speed of 5.4GHz, and a large 64MB L3 cache, which comes together to let it handle pretty much anything that’s thrown at it, especially high refresh rate 1440p gaming.

QHD display

The screen on this model is as impressive as you’d expect from an ASUS ROG Strix gaming laptop. It’s 240Hz, which allows for very high frame rates, and it also has a very low response time of 3ms, too. This will dramatically reduce motion blur and ghosting, allowing you to keep track of what’s going on on-screen much more easily. For creatives, specifically video editors, it features 100% DCI-P3 color, making it ideal for accurate editing and color grading.

Storage and RAM

This laptop features 16GB of DDR5, with 4800MHz memory speed, which is going to be excellent for gaming, multitasking, and running RAM-intensive creative applications, like Adobe Premiere Pro, for example. On top of that, you’ve got decent storage, too, in the form of a 1TB SSD. This is enough for a good handful of AAA games, for reference.

Things to consider

The obvious consideration is whether you should go for this or a newer 50-series model. In short, for this price, it’s a pretty good deal, but if you’re looking for the absolute latest features, you may want to explore 5070 options instead. The newer 50-series mobile GPUs are built on Nvidia’s new Blackwell Architecture, so you’re not just getting new features like MFG with DLSS 4, but you’re getting the latest generation ray tracing cores, tensor cores, and VRAM, in the form of GDDR7. In terms of pricing, you can find them anywhere between $1,500 and way above $2,000, depending on the specs, but they’re often discounted, so check out our top deals below if you want to see what’s out there.
