Baldur's Gate 3 gives players the power to do a whole lot of actions, including the ability to fly using Illithid powers. However, many players have been facing a frustrating problem with keybindings linked to these powers for a long time now.

Some characters can fly using the “Z” key, while others still jump by default. This has led to confusion and frustration, especially for players who want to use flight as their main way to move around. There are a few ways you can try and resolve this, but now a new mod provides an easy solution.

Modder introduces a simple fix

One of the most common complaints is that even after unlocking the flying ability for multiple characters, the keybind doesn't always behave the same. For example, when you press “Z,” one character might fly while another still performs a normal jump. Some users tried swapping the abilities, but it didn't always work the way they wanted.

Now, after a long wait, a modder named chronos1172 on Nexus Mods has finally managed to come up with a solution to this problem. They have created a small but very useful mod that changes how the “Jump” key works when your character has flying abilities. If your character is able to fly, pressing the “Z” key will now activate the flying move instead of the basic jump. The same goes for controller users – pressing “D-Up” will now trigger flight first, based on the priority of the powers your character has.

The mod follows a specific order. If your character has full Illithid powers, the levitate ability from that form will be used first. If they don't have that, the game checks for the semi-illithid form. After that, it looks for the basic Fly spell. If none of those are available, it falls back to the regular jump. This order helps the game pick the best movement ability automatically, without making the player change anything manually.

The best part about this mod is that it doesn't remove or replace any spells. You still keep your old jump action if you want to use it. The mod just makes the controls smarter, which saves time and effort.
