Battlefield 1 no longer works on Steam Deck after anti-cheat update

EA released a new update for Battlefield 1 last night, which is a bit different from the ones the developers normally release. This is because this one does not introduce new content to the game or fix bugs that players have been facing. Instead, it transitions the game to EA’s new anti-cheat system. However, while it has been designed to handle cheaters, the new system has caused a big problem for Steam Deck users.
Battlefield 1 is no longer supported on the Steam Deck
Battlefield 1 was previously one of the games that reportedly worked fine on the Steam Deck after some tweaks and adjustments. Everything was going smoothly until EA decided to release its new anti-cheat system last night.
While PC players are excited about this new system, as it will catch and stop cheaters from ruining their gameplay experience, it has also made the game unplayable on Valve’s Steam Deck. And no, we’re not saying its performance is affected. The game simply no longer opens on the handheld.

The new anti-cheat system for Battlefield 1 doesn't work with Linux or Proton. Proton is compatibility layer software that allows Linux users, like those on the Steam Deck, to play Windows games. Now, if you try to launch Battlefield 1 on your Steam Deck, you’ll be met with the following error message:
This message means the game can't run on Steam Deck or Linux anymore because the anti-cheat system blocks it. Right now, there isn’t a fix for this issue. In fact, EA would have to change their anti-cheat system to support Linux and Proton, but they have no plans to do this.
We saw the same happen with GTA Online recently, which also became unplayable on the Steam Deck due to the BattleEye anti-cheat software.
