4K GPU deals – the perfect three this Black Friday
XFX – Speedster MERC310 AMD Radeon RX 7900XT
ASUS TUF Gaming Radeon™ RX 7900 XTX OC Edition 24GB GDDR6
ASUS TUF Gaming Radeon RX 7900 XTX OC Edition
ASUS TUF RX 7900 XTX OC Edition – Was $1,099.99, Now $959.99 at Amazon
ASUS TUF Gaming Radeon™ RX 7900 XTX OC Edition 24GB GDDR6
The first card that I recommend is the ASUS TUF RX 7900 XTX. This is a solid 4K, as we saw during our RX 7900 XTX review. This overclocked variant has a triple fan design, meaning better temperatures and performance. It has a GPU clock speed of 2,615 MHz, which means at max, its 6,144 Stream Processors can operate at that frequency, making quick work of resource-intensive applications and games alike.
While it is close to the $1,000 mark, its 4K performance was almost neck and neck with the RTX 4090, which costs a lot more than this, around the $2,000 to $2,500 ballpark. The RX 7900 XTX managed 70 FPS in Cyberpunk 2077 natively with ultra settings, and the 4090 managed four extra FPS.
However, in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, it managed 147 FPS while its competition delivered 184 FPS. So, the question is: Is it worth paying almost double the amount for 4 or 37 FPS more? If I were asked that question, I would go for the RX 7900 XTX every time unless there were some professional tasks at hand, in which scenario, the RTX 4090 would be the better option.
ASUS TUF RTX 4070 Super OC Edition – Was $689.99, Now $649 at Amazon
ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Super OC Edition Gaming Graphics Card
You might be wondering how did we come from the RX 7900 XTX to the RTX 4070 Super, which is a mid-range card. The short answer is that it packs a powerful punch and can push 4K, as we saw in our RTX 4070 Super review.
While 1440p is more comfortable for this GPU, it managed 74 and 60FPS at native 4K in Assassin's Creed Mirage and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora without enabling DLSS 3. So, if you enable that, you can take its in-game performance to the next level and experience better FPS at 4K.
So, despite its mid-range title, you can experience 4K gaming for less than $700. That sounds like a deal too good to be true, but it is.
XFX Speedster MERC310 RX 7900XT – Was $749.99, Now $649.99 at Best Buy
XFX – Speedster MERC310 AMD Radeon RX 7900XT
The final GPU that I think is worth considering is the RX 7900 XT. This is once again a solid 4K card, second to only the RX 7900 XTX. It features 5,376 Stream processors, 20GB of GDDR6 VRAM, and a base and boost clock speed of 1.7 and 2.5 GHz, respectively.
These specifications allow it to churn out good FPS in even the most demanding titles, as we saw during our testing for the RX 7900 XT review. However, the variant we tested was the Sapphire Radeon RX 7900 XT; these cards are fundamentally the same.
That said, it has the same price tag as the RTX 4070 Super, $649.99, but much better 4K performance. The RTX 4070 Super managed 174 FPS in Doom Eternal, while the RX 7900 XT delivered 195. So, you're getting much better performance at the same price. In addition, it doesn't fall behind the RX 7900 XTX much as it managed 62 FPS in Cyberpunk 2077 while the 7900 XTX managed 70 but also costs a couple of hundred dollars more.
Overall, this is an excellent GPU with great value and if you don't want to spend more than $700 on a GPU but want to experience 4K gaming, this is the graphics card to get.
