Copilot on the ROG Xbox Ally says Legion Go 2 is one of the best Windows handhelds right now

Copilot seems to be doing a pretty good job of remaining unbiased. One user with an ROG Xbox Ally X decided to test out the handheld’s Copilot features, only to be told that the Legion Go 2 is “one of the best Windows handhelds” right now. The new Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X are a couple of the latest PC gaming handhelds to hit the market, following a collaboration between Microsoft and ASUS.
The Xbox-branded devices were released a couple of weeks ahead of the Lenovo Legion Go 2, which also boasts Ryzen Z2 series processing power across its two models. The flagship from both rival handhelds features the Z2 Extreme. Legion Go 2 pre orders have been available for well over a month, and it is set to be released on October 31 – though there have been some delays.
Copilot says you should check out the Legion Go 2
A user on Reddit who recently picked up the ROG Xbox Ally X posted to show a funny interaction with Copilot. The AI chatbot was asked, “Which is the best Windows handheld in the market right now?” and it quickly replied by suggesting the Legion Go 2.
It’s possible that the Copilot AI wasn’t yet trained on the ROG Xbox Ally devices, though that seems unlikely given the fact that Microsoft announced them back in early June, and the Legion Go 2 wasn’t officially announced until September 5th during IFA Berlin, though a prototype model was shown off much earlier in the year at CES. The ROG Xbox Ally X is indeed mentioned when you chat to Microsoft Copilot in-browser here; unfortuantly, we don’t have the handheld at hand to test a voice-activated query.
How do the flagship handhelds compare?
When talking about the ‘best’ Windows handheld, it’s best to compare two flagship models featuring the Ryzen Z2 Extreme chip.
| Specification | ROG Xbox Ally X | Lenovo Legion Go 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Screen size | 7″ | 8.8″ |
| Resolution / Aspect ratio | 1920 x 1080 / 16:9 | 1920 x 1200 / 16:10 |
| Panel type | IPS | OLED |
| Refresh rate | 120Hz | 144Hz |
| Processor | AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme | AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme |
| Graphics (integrated) | AMD Radeon 890M | AMD Radeon 890M |
| Memory | 24GB LPDDR5X | Up to 32GB LPDDR5X |
| Storage | 1TB SSD | Up to 2TB SSD / up to 2TB MicroSD |
| Battery | 80Wh | 74WHr (4-cell) |
| Operating System | Windows 11 | Windows 11 |
| Price (USD) | $999.99 | $1,349.00 (1TB) / $1,479.99 (2TB) |
When you go off the specifications alone, yes, the Legion Go 2 seems like the more appealing option. It has a better display, up to 32GB of RAM, and even more storage capacity. But there’s also the issue of price, with the Go 2 being a massive $350 more expensive.
The Xbox Ally X also features the Xbox full screen experience which brings the ROG handheld closer to a console-like experience, though this ‘Xbox mode‘ can already be installed early via Windows Insider while you wait for the official build to reach Windows handhelds outside of the ROG Xbox devices.
Overall, both the ROG Xbox Ally X and Legion Go 2 are fantastic current-gen handhelds. The price difference is the main thing you’ll want to weigh up, and the larger, OLED screen of the Go 2 may be its best selling point. The Lenovo flagship also comes with detachable controllers, just like its predecessor – and of course the Nintendo Switch.
