Earlier this year, OneXPlayer revealed its unique “transformable” dual-screen handheld gaming device, the OneXSugar Sugar 1, and it’s unlike anything we’ve seen before. And if you’ve been eager to get your hands on one, you’ll be glad to know that the team behind it is getting ready to launch their crowdfunding campaign soon.

What makes the Sugar 1 so special is that it’s the first Android handheld with two screens that you can configure in many different ways. Think of it like a mix between a Nintendo Switch and a Nintendo DS, but running Android. You can play games on one screen and use the second screen for something else, like watching a video, using a browser, or keeping game guides open. The device even lets you flip it upside down, and the controls will automatically adjust.

“ONEXSUGAR, an Android gaming handheld by OneXPlayer, is the world’s first transformable dual-screen device, redefining portable gaming. Powered by the Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 chipset, it delivers top-tier performance while its innovative dual-screen and adaptable form factor unlock new ways to play”

While we don’t have its full specifications yet, we do know that the Sugar 1 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 chip, so it has plenty of power. On top of that, it comes with an 8-core Kryo CPU, an Adreno A32 GPU with ray tracing support, and support for Wi-Fi 7, so you can expect smooth and fast performance.

The primary display is a 6-inch OLED screen, while the secondary is a 3.92-inch screen. The Verge got to test out a prototype and confirmed some exciting details. The Sugar 1 could run games like Genshin Impact on high settings, and even emulate games like Metroid Prime and Xenoblade Chronicles. You can swap displays, use virtual joystick and button mapping for touchscreen games, and even move the physical controls out of the way when you want a full-screen touch experience.

It’s a bit heavy at just over a pound, but still lighter than the Switch 2. It also has a larger battery, which should help with longer play sessions. There’s no official price yet, but it may cost up to $600 or more. The company will launch its crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo on July 21, and that’s when we’ll find out the full price, so stay tuned.
