Death Stranding gets massive player spike on Steam during Summer Sale, and it’s even in Steam Deck’s top 10
Death Stranding, a game that was released back in 2019, is once again in the spotlight. Even though it was released over five years ago, the game is now seeing a fresh wave of players. Part of this is thanks to a huge discount during the Steam Summer Sale, which has helped bring many new players back into the world of Death Stranding, especially on the Steam Deck. That, and of course, the fact that its highly praised sequel ‘On the Beach’ was released last week as a PS5 exclusive.
If you head over to the Steam Deck Top Played charts, you’ll find Death Stranding sitting comfortably in the eighth spot. The game has climbed 26 positions in the past week, and what’s even more impressive is that it’s currently ranked above games like Brotato, Slay the Spire, Elden Ring Nightreign, and PEAK.

The game didn’t just become more popular on Steam Deck. It also reached a new peak player count on Steam itself. Just yesterday, the game hit 22,080 concurrent players, which is the highest it’s ever been. The Director’s Cut of Death Stranding includes several improvements. On PC, it supports higher frame rates, ultra-wide monitors, and a photo mode. It also includes bonus content from other games, like the Half-Life series and Cyberpunk 2077.
If you go to the Steam store right now, you’ll find the Director’s Cut listed for $15.99 instead of the usual $39.99. That’s a massive 60% discount – the lowest it has ever been. And for players who already own the original version of the game, there’s an upgrade to the Director’s Cut available for just $3.99, which is down from $9.99.
It is, however, important to keep in mind that the discount will be available until July 10, so make sure to grab it soon. There are also plenty of other great games that you can get for under $10 and under $5 during the Steam Summer Sale, so make sure to check them out as well. In fact, the 10 most popular Steam Deck games of the past year are also available at discounted prices.
