In a bid to fight against ‘big tech’ and liberal news consortiums, former US President Donald Trump is launching his own social media platform ‘TRUTH Social’. Imagine going back ten years and reading that sentence? Its sign-up page states the following:

“TRUTH Social is America’s ‘Big Tent’ social media platform that encourages an open, free, and honest global conversation without discriminating against political ideology.”

Truth Social – Is It Nessesary?

The iOS exclusive app is making waves across world media, and whilst copying most of the features we’ve come to love from popular social media platform Twitter such as profiles, the ‘truth feed’ that provides updates from people you follow, and news organizations you want to hear from, and notifications.

Considering Trumps’ political moves against popular Android device manufacturer Huawei, it’s easy to see why the app is iOS exclusive. The big red flag here is Truth becoming a breeding ground of offensive and unfair views thanks to its ‘everyone has an opinion’ approach. The free, open, and honest approach Truth is taking may lead to a social media platform that is unmonitored for potentially harmful movements that could one day prove to be a big problem for society.

There is, however, also a good side to Truth Social as it promotes debate and an environment where people can state their views without fear of ridicule. But again, this is a double-edged sword seeing as free, open, and honest statements and topics work both ways. How instances of cyberbullying and clashing ideologies will be monitored remains to be seen.

People already have ‘freedom of speech’ on Twitter and other social platforms, but they also get called out when they have a bad take on something. We’re not quite sure what Trump has planned for Truth socials’ future, other than creating a social media platform he has total control over and can use. Here’s the back end of the app store description:

“Big Tent is a new way to describe “inclusivity” in America. Think of a giant outdoor event tent at your best friend’s wedding. Who’s there? The combination of multiple families from all over the United States, and the world. Uncle Jim from Atlanta is a proud libertarian. Aunt Kellie from Texas is a staunch conservative. Your cousin John from California is a die-hard liberal. And guess what? They’re all together to have an amazing time and share their viewpoints of the world. Although we don’t always agree with each other, we welcome these varied opinions and welcome the conversation.

Let your voice be heard. Sign up, join the conversation, and share your unique opinion by posting a TRUTH, Re-TRUTH, photo, news story, or video link to communicate with your friends, customers, and the world. Stay informed about breaking news while staying directly connected with the people who influence you – don’t be shocked if they take your TRUTH viral!”

Needless to say, Truth social is a big discussion in itself. Yes, people deserve free speech and factual news, but a little online research is always best practice. This could potentially turn out to be just another platform telling you what to think and do, similar to the liberal media outlets Trump intends to work against. We would always advise making an informed opinion through research and trusted sources rather than eat up what is thrown at you across the plethora of social platforms out there.
