If you’re interested in Raspberry Pi projects, there’s a whole lot to explore. The same goes for cosplay, and we’ve come across a project that covers both in a way that immediately caught our attention. It’s no secret that the Fallout franchise has a large following, whether you’ve played all the games or first got into the fandom through the hit TV show earlier this year.
With Halloween just passing us by, one Reddit user has shared their rendition of T-45 Power Armor, specifically the iconic helmet that appears on the Fallout 3 box art. It features a Raspberry Pi microcontroller for features such as a temperature sensor, lights, and more.
Raspberry Pi Pico powers this Fallout headwear
According to the Reddit post from u/Grimdaria, the T-45 helmet has the following parts and features:
- Pi PICO microcontroller
- External blue LED to denote PICO is operational
- Internal temperature sensor
- 5v fans that activate based on the internal temperature
- 12-LED NeoPixel for the main lamp
- External stereo microphones that feed into stereo headphones (can hear things going on outside helmet)
- Two external buttons and one external potentiometer to control lights/sound volume
- Internal OLED screen that displays the status of all electronics (Lights on/off, fans on/off, fans RPM, temperature, headphone volume)
As we alluded to before, this unique piece of headwear was designed for Halloween and we think it fits the bill perfectly. With a temperature sensor that helps control internal cooling and stereo headphones that feed you outside noise, it doesn’t appear to be a stuffy Halloween mask that you’d want to take on and off at every chance you get. This is one of the most unique Raspberry Pi projects we’ve seen, more impressive than other game-focused attire such as the custom Helldivers 2 keypad we featured.
While we want one for ourselves, it’s worth mentioning that it is actually sized to fit an 11-year-old, so we don’t think anyone in our office will be able to slip into it. In any case, it’s a neat project that any Fallout fan should check out.
