What we like about this Acer Predator OLED X27U monitor
This monitor can essentially do it all, and is an incredibly versatile option if you’re looking for something with 1440p resolution. First off, in terms of picture quality, you’ve got some of the best you can get since it’s an OLED panel. These boast very high contrast ratios and amazing color, making everything you watch look realistic, lifelike, and vibrant. In the case of this monitor, it has a peak brightness of 1000 nits, DCI-P3 99% color, and even Delta E<2 color accuracy, which is very high up there.
Moving to gaming performance, you have a rapid 280Hz refresh rate combined with a very low 0.3ms response time, and even FreeSync Premium Pro. This refresh rate ensures that you can game at very high frames per second, which is ideal for more competitive play, and its response time is low enough that you shouldn’t experience much in the way of ghosting or blur. The big win here, though, is FreeSync Premium Pro, which is designed to do everything that Premium can, but with better handling of HDR content. That’s ideal if you’re playing games at max settings and high framerates, and still need everything to look ultra smooth.
Other minor features of this monitor include two built-in 5W speakers, which could come in handy in a pinch, and a fully ergonomic stand with tilt, swivel, pivot, and height adjustment. It’s also sized to 27 inches, which is brilliant for preserving 1440p picture quality, but also not too big that it puts you at a disadvantage in games like first-person shooters.
Considerations and alternatives
If brightness is your thing, then you should know that this monitor has a typical brightness of 250 nits and is on the lower side. While that won’t be an issue for lower-light surroundings, in a well-lit space it may not be visable enough for your liking. A good alternative to this, which wouldn’t be too much more expensive, would be a QD-OLED monitor instead. These are enhanced with Quantum Dot technology and tend to be brighter with a slight trade-off when it comes to contrast.

What type of setup would this suit best?
Higher-end 1440p gaming PCs would be best paired with this monitor to get the most out of it. You’ll want something around the same level as an RTX 5070 Ti or an RX 9070 XT, in our opinion, which is capable of handling 1440p at high fps, but also can utilize ray tracing to really showcase the picture quality of this OLED panel.
Is it a good time to buy?
Newegg is doing a Black Friday Price Protection guarantee on this product, which means that if you buy it, and it drops further in price in the sales, you’ll be refunded the difference in a super hassle-free way. We think this monitor is pretty much as low as it’s going to get, until potentially well into next year, so yes, we’d say it’s a great time to buy.
