Black Friday may be coming up fast, but we’re already seeing some cracking deals roll in, especially with gaming monitors. This MSI MAG 27-inch monitor is down 25%, reduced from $159.99 to $119.99, and is at its lowest price of the year on Amazon. This monitor is FHD and 180Hz with a rapid response time of 0.5ms, and is a great, cost-effective option to consider pairing with a good 1080p gaming PC build. For the price, we think it’s a real winner and gives you everything you need for high fps gaming, without breaking the bank.

What we like about this MSI MAG gaming monitor

So this gaming monitor is a great option if you’re looking for something speedy, with decent picture quality, without breaking the bank. This is more of a budget-oriented option, so it obviously scales back in some areas, but overall, it does bring a good amount to the table for the price. The big win here is its refresh rate and response time, coming in at 180Hz and 0.5ms. Now this is a good combo to have, especially with its AMD FreeSync support, for high-framerate gaming with reduced blur and ghosting. For competitive or fast-paced gaming, this is great. In terms of design, it’s actually quite premium-looking, too, thanks to its narrow bezels, smaller footbase, and overall sleek, minimal aesthetics. On top of that, it’s sized very well to make the most out of its 1080p resolution, but is large enough to be used for productivity, watching shows, and everyday usage.

Things to consider before buying

This is a great gaming monitor, but it wouldn’t be our first pick to double up as a display for creative work. To be fair, it’s not really designed with this in mind, so it’s not a huge deal, but its color, while coming in at 115% sRGB, is only 80% DCI-P3. For reference, for creative professionals, you’ll want something with at least 95% DCI-P3 color, so you can edit accurately. Its brightness is also on the slightly lower side, coming in at 250 nits, which is okay in most environments, but you may find it a little dim if you’re using this in a very well-lit room.

Who’s this deal for, and what are your alternatives?

For the price, this is a very good gaming monitor if you’re largely playing more competitive titles at high framerates in FHD. It’s a cost-effective option to pair with something like an RTX 5060 gaming PC or similar, and we think it looks great from a design perspective, too. In terms of alternatives, if you upper your budget to around the $400 mark, you could explore some of the dual-mode 4K/ 1080p gaming monitors, which typically have brighter screens and even higher refresh rates. These would be a good option if you wanted to, for example, watch content in 4K, but game in 1080p, or even have something that could accommodate future upgrades to your setup.
