With Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event taking place today, it has revealed a range of new hardware and software upgrades, much of which is centered around its latest range of smartphones – the Samsung Galaxy S25 series. As expected, there’s plenty to learn about Galaxy AI as well, but let’s stick to hardware for the time being.

Overall, there hasn’t been a massive amount of change when comparing S24 vs S25 as far as the specifications go, but a new baseline memory spec is a welcome change. For reference, last year’s base model came with just 8GB of RAM.

We now have confirmation that the new series of phones comes with 12GB of RAM as standard, even for the base model; the S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra all come with 12GB memory. With the extra 4GB of RAM, this brings the standard model up to the level of the rest. In fact, that means it’s at the same level as last year’s S24 Ultra – the flagship model. As we said, this is a welcome change that should help aid the performance of the newest models, even though specs overall aren’t massively overhauled each and every generation.

Outside of the improved RAM, the new S25 series phones are being upgraded to the newest offering from Qualcomm – a custom-tuned Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset for the new Galaxy line-up. With a 40% stronger NPU, it will offer “faster and more seamless AI experiences”. On top of that, the Samsung Galaxy shapes up to be a fantastic choice for gaming – with 40% improved ray tracing performance.

Otherwise, the design of the new devices will be familiar to anyone currently using a S24 series phone. Display sizes remain the same for the S25 and S25 Plus at 6.2″ and 6.7″ respectively. All models (S25, S25 Plus, and S25 Ultra) will be fitted with a 120Hz refresh rate.

With many of these advancements, the improved 12GB of RAM feels like a must-have spec change, helping create a stable device for multitasking and more demanding gaming workflows across the entire range of Galaxy S25 smartphones.
