We’ve had a good amount of time to reflect on the Ryzen 9000 series since it was announced, but we’re still waiting for them to hit the market. In the meantime, we can also look forward to the release date of X870 & X870E motherboards, which are slated to arrive sometime after the latest Ryzen generation is released.

The latest development is that new 800 series boards from Gigabyte have surfaced online, so we can have a closer look at their range ahead of launch. In case you missed it, AMD is skipping the 700 series chipset – going straight to 800 to keep in line with its rivals, Intel.

Gigabyte AMD 800 series motherboards spotted

This news comes courtesy of prominent leaker harukaze5719 on X. They spotted a publication on the Russian language site eaeunion, dated July 1st. It reveals that thirteen new models should be on the way, including X870, X870E, and X870I variants.

We had the chance to check out the upcoming chipset generation at Computex last month, as ASRock and MSI showed off their 800 series motherboards. Now we can see exactly what Gigabyte has to offer – by name. It is worth mentioning that they did indeed unveil some next-gen motherboards at Computex, but now we have a more complete list:

  • X870 A ELITE WF7 ICE
  • X870 A ELITE WIFI7
  • X870 A TACHYON ICE
  • X870 EAGLE AX
  • X870 EAGLE WIFI7
  • X870 GAMING P WF
  • X870 GAMING X WIFI7
  • X870E A ELITE WIFI7
  • X870E A XTREME AI TOP
  • X870E AORUS MASTER
  • X870E AORUS PRO
  • X870E AORUS PRO ICE
  • X870I AORUS PRO ICE

When is the 800 series coming?

Despite being designed for the latest Ryzen 9000 series processors, we don’t think the 800 series mobos will arrive at the same time. Whereas AMD’s new CPUs are due at the end of July, we most recently learned that a delay in the launch of X870 motherboards could set them back to sometime in late September. Anyone upgrading to the 9000 series will still be able to use compatible 600 series boards, especially as manufacturers have already started rolling out BIOS updates to prepare for next-gen.

AMD will be working on ‘socket longevity‘ for AM5 in a similar fashion to AM4 as we learned from AMD in a recent interview, so there’s no rush to get the 800 series out to the market considering there’s no socket change. However, you shouldn’t be waiting too long if you really must have the latest tech.
