As the most popular PC gaming platform, Steam is home to a massive library of games, and it’s always expanding. There are a bunch of new free games available on Steam this week, so we thought we’d compile a list of what seem to be the most compelling options right now.

On top of that, developers are always trying to get new players to try their games via free weekends (or a full free week if you’re lucky). There are three notable games that are free to play this weekend, including Len’s Island, which recently got released into version 1.0 and holds a ‘Very Positive’ rating from user reviews.

Best free games on Steam this week

Let’s jump straight into the games on show right now.

New free-to-play games on Steam

When we say F2P, we mean these games are free to add to your Steam library, and they’ll stay there. Many free games on Steam are cheap and simple by nature, but there seems to be a couple of nice choices this week.

We’d like to highlight Oh, Bugger! in particular – a first-person shooter with plenty of customization, varied enemies, and alien gore. Better yet, the devs say it is a 1.25GB download, so there’s not much reason not to try it out. If FPS isn’t your sort of thing, we’d recommend Katharsi, a puzzle adventure that recently got an update (on June 19) to add more content, achievements, and address some bugs.

Free to play this weekend on Steam

Outside of games that are free to keep, there are a few titles that are F2P for a limited time – this weekend only (June 19 – 23).

Victoria 3 and Dead by Daylight are older, more established titles that you may already be familiar with. If you’ve been meaning to give them a try, now’s your time. The only problem with DBD is its relatively large file size these days, after years of content updates, so it’s hardly a quick and easy game to jump into. As of Len’s Island, the game got its full 1.0 release on June 19, including co-op multiplayer and a finished end-game. You can host a server for up to 8 people, so we think it’s the perfect time to hop in with a group of friends.
