What’s better than a Steam Sale? Well, you could argue completely free games. Unfortunately, quality isn’t always guaranteed with free games on PC’s most popular gaming platform, but there are plenty of hidden gems out there for players to dive into. We’ve picked out eight new games worth checking on right now.

Steam users tend to look forward to sales events, but since the Summer Sale is over, let’s talk about free games instead. We’ve got a list of upcoming Steam sales; the next major annual event is the Autumn sale that kicks off on September 29.

8 free games that Steam users can get right now

These aren’t part of a promotion or limited-time deal, and they’ll be yours to keep forever once you claim them. There’s currently no deadline, but keep in mind these are small titles and not made by big studios, so don’t expect AAA quality. Still, they can offer a solid experience, and since they’re free, there’s no reason not to at least have a gander.

  • Realms Road: This game blends turn-based RPG, rogue-like, and adventure elements. You can choose from 20 characters to build your team. Your main goal is to travel from realm to realm and battle groups of enemies using various skills and weapons.
  • Nightlings: A horror game set inside a child’s mind. You must survive three nights, but it won’t be easy, as goblin-like creatures will appear outside your house and try to break in.
  • Kasama: The Awakening: This game lets you explore the dreamworld where you play as Iron. It offers a short journey where you’ll uncover hidden truths, face your fears, and restore balance.
  • Blindsided Labs: A 2D strategy game where you select units like Swordsmen, Archers, and Templars to fight enemy squads. As you eliminate foes, the enemy grows stronger, making battles more intense after a few minutes.
  • One/Iro: A 3D first-person puzzle game where you play as Dylan. Your mission is to travel through his dreams to discover what happened to him and his family.
  • Mech Merc Company: This is a mech combat simulator game, but it comes with an interesting touch of business management elements. You not only get to engage in tactical missions, but you can also buy and sell mechs, customize them, and even hire and fire pilots.
  • Hunter’s Arena: Revolution: This game is set in the Ancient East, and it offers a big map for players to explore. Your main goal is to use your combat skills to fight against other players, with the winner claiming all the loot and treasure gathered during the match.
  • Scope Battle Royale: This is a battle royale, where 100 players fight against each other on a remote island. The island keeps shrinking as time passes, and you’ll need to search for weapons and supplies to survive till the end.

If you do have a little bit of cash to spend and none of these games take your fancy, we recommend checking out third-party sellers, especially while Steam has no official sales running. Humble and Fanatical also offer discounts on collections of games through bundles, and both of them have bundle deals running right now.
