Another multiplayer game is heading to the graveyard of unsuccessful live service titles. This time, it is the turn of Ubisoft's XDefiant, which is due to go offline tomorrow, June 3rd. Players have only a short time remaining to claim refunds for DLC and founders’ packs.
XDefiant has had only a short life. Released in May 2024, the game had a rocky start. Despite featuring factions inspired by Ubisoft's biggest franchises, such as Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six, it failed to catch on with audiences.
Despite a decent player count, XDefiant was also subject to pointed criticism, including accusations of a rushed gameplay feel, generic ‘Hero' characters with none of the iconic and recognisable names such as Sam Fisher or Ezio Auditore.
Those who purchased the Ultimate Founders Pack, or the various DLC packs and in-game currency packs, are eligible for refunds. All DLC and virtual currency options were removed from storefronts on December 3, 2024. Only those who bought DLC or currency after that period now remain.
Refunds for DLC are still available
Refunds are being managed by the storefronts where the game and DLC were purchased from. According to Ubisoft, these partners will be able to process refunds in eight weeks. If your refund has not arrived after this period has passed, then you will need to contact Ubisoft Customer Services.
Here are the items eligible for refunds:
- XDefiant Ultimate Founders Pack
- XDefiant Gold Pack
- XDefiant Starter Pack DLC
- XDefiant Combat Pack DLC
- XDefiant VC Pack – 500 XCoins
- XDefiant VC Pack – 1000 XCoins
- XDefiant VC Pack – 2100 XCoins
- XDefiant VC Pack – 5750 XCoins
- XDefiant VC Pack – 12000 XCoins
The standard Founders Pack and Founders Pack Elite are not eligible for a refund. Full information on the refund process can be found on the Ubisoft website.
The closure of this game represents another blow for Ubisoft, which has been floundering in the wake of high-profile flops such as Star Wars Outlaws and Skull and Bones.
