Today seems to be good day for game and hardware tie-ins. HP has launched a new League of Legends-themed gaming laptop, featuring an Intel Core i7-144650HX processor and RTX 5070 Laptop GPU. That’s certainly overkill for a game as old and as optimized as League of Legends, but obviously, it makes it a solid choice for modern gaming.

Earlier today, we covered Maingear’s new DOOM-themed gaming PCs, so if you’re looking for more custom designs but in the desktop space, cast your gaze over there. HP’s new special edition OMEN 16 gaming laptop arrives as part of its partnership with Riot Games; HP also provides the official display for League of Legends and Valorant esports, the OMEN 25 Gaming Monitor.

The team over at HP had some trouble with the laptop form factor; “there’s no glass to play with, no internal components we could sprinkle graphics on. We’re a little bit limited, so we did just enough to make it stand out,” said designer Daniel Y. They also wanted a strike a balance between the League theme and a regular laptop, so people can feel comfortable using it in public.

“We wanted to key in on hextech, combining magic with technology for powers. It plays nicely with us because we’re a tech company, and adding that mystical spin adds richness.”

Daniel Y, Industrial Designer at HP

The designers wanted to avoid creating a piece of hardware “that’s just regular hardware with a logo tax”. By putting together a team of designers who actually play League of Legends, they hope to have created something every League fan can be happy with. The premium black and gold look is an obvious departure from your usual RGB gaming laptop lightshow.
