Excitement is brewing for the 9800X3D release date, and as we build up to that date on November 7th, AMD is clearly in a pretty good spot. More news to back that up comes today as new CPU retail sales numbers are published online. Intel released its new Core Ultra CPUs less than two weeks ago now; we think it provided “a necessary fresh start” but it hasn’t done enough to win over consumers, especially for gaming.

According to stats from popular German retailer Mindfactory, post-Arrow Lake sales are still massively in favor of AMD, and the awaited launch of the first X3D of the 9000 series should surely leave Intel playing catch-up.

7800X3D still on top in recent CPU retail sales data

Unsurprisingly, we’ve seen a recent trend of the 7800X3D being the number one CPU in these sales stats, and that continues this week. The Ryzen 7 X3D chip is easily one of the most popular on the market right now, even running into some stock issues as we close in on its successor, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D.

TechEpiphany has posted the Mindfactory CPU retail sales for week 44 (Oct 28 – Nov 3) and we see that AMD has a massive 89.9% market share with 3160 units sold. In comparison, Intel sold just 355 units and only 40 of these are for Core Ultra.

Just out of the top 10 in eleventh place is the AMD Ryzen 7 9700X at 80 units, the highest 9000 series chip on the list. Looking over to Intel, the highest-selling CPU is the i7-14700K with 40 units sold. The new flagship Ultra Core 285K sold 20 units, with the rest of the series lagging behind. Considering you’ll need a new Z890 motherboard to even support these, it is proving to be a hard sell.

As we can see from the list above, the gaming-focused X3D processors are clearly fan favorites. So, we expect many people will want to know where to buy the 9800X3D as it will become the best gaming CPU on the market when it becomes available for purchase on November 7th.
