Last month, Apple hosted the ‘Its Glowtime' event and launched the iPhone 16 series, along with its latest set of AirPods and Apple Watches. Soon after the launch, the company rolled out iOS 18, which was set to bring major overhauls.

However, the launch turned out to be a bit buggy, and even (iPadOS 18) ended up bricking some iPad devices. Apple recalled the update and then released iOS 18.0.1 with fixes. While we wait for Apple Intelligence implementation later this month, this new patch is a must-have, and now Apple is even stopping you from going back.

iOS 18.0.1 brings some much-needed stability

The new patch seems to work wonders, with a number of fixes now in place. Apple has also stopped signing the iOS 18 update, meaning you can no longer downgrade to it (in case you were interested in doing so). This move comes a week after the iOS 18.0.1 update was released. With this, it is clear that Apple wants users to run the latest version of the operating system – and considering that iOS 18 was buggy, it makes sense for users to upgrade to the latest version.

The 18.0.1 update, which was rolled out a few days ago, did not include any major additions. As you can see in the screenshot below, it includes some important fixes for iPhone 16 and two security fixes.

iOS 18.01.1 updating

Here's a quick summary:

  • Temporarily unresponsive touch screen in iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro
  • Camera freezes while recording in the Ultra Wide camera in 4K with HDR turned off
  • Messages abruptly quit when replying to a message with a shared Apple Watch face
  • An issue with memory allocation causing performance issues in some iPhones

iOS 18.1 to bring Apple Intelligence this month

In case you missed it, Apple has promised some new AI features in the iOS 18.1 update for compatible devices. While iOS 18 did bring about some major overhauls, the much-awaited Apple Intelligence features will be added soon. According to Forbes, these will be coming on October 28th.

As we reported earlier, Apple has rolled out a developer beta of iOS 18.1, and it includes some of the Apple Intelligence features for mail, photos, and Siri along with some generative AI writing tools.
