Latest Steam Deck update squashes a few bugs, while Beta version adds new shortcuts
Table of Contents
Valve regularly releases updates for the Steam Deck, and each one is designed to improve the user experience. Whether it’s fixing bugs or adding small but useful features, these updates make the Steam Deck better with time. The latest update, released on June 2nd, brings two different versions – one for the Stable channel and another for those using the Beta or Preview channel.
Changes for the Stable channel
Source: Steam
- Fixed a rare case that could result in multiple prompts to install the same update.
- Fixed a rare case that could result in re-triggering the out of box wizard.
- Fixed the ‘Battery Charge Limit’ option showing on devices that currently don’t support this feature.
- Fixed events showing blurred images in the library for games with adult content.
The stable version of the update focuses on fixing a few annoying issues. One fix deals with a rare problem where users would be asked more than once to install the same update. Another fix addresses a situation where the Steam Deck would mistakenly start the out-of-box setup process again. These issues didn't happen often, but they could be confusing or annoying when they did.
The update also removes the “Battery Charge Limit” option from devices that don't support it, presumably devices which are not yet officially supported by SteamOS, such as the ROG Ally or original Legion Go. This prevents users from seeing settings that wouldn't work on their device, making the settings menu cleaner and less confusing. Valve also fixed a problem where some events in the library were showing blurry images for games that include adult content. This update now makes those images clearer.

General
Source: Steam
- Added in-game keyboard shortcuts to open the Main Menu and Quick Access Menu.
- Default Main Menu hotkey: Shift+Tab
- Default Quick Access Menu hotkey: Ctrl+Shift+Tab
- Customizable in Settings->In Game
- Improved steam client update installation speed. In some pathological cases this operation could take minutes to complete, when the expected completion time is seconds.
- Fixed events showing blurred images in the library for games with adult content.
For those using the beta or preview version of the Steam Deck client, Valve added something new that can make using the device more convenient. You can now use keyboard shortcuts to open the Main Menu and the Quick Access Menu while in-game. By default, pressing Shift + Tab opens the Main Menu, and pressing Ctrl + Shift + Tab opens the Quick Access Menu. These shortcuts are also customizable, so you can change them to whatever works best for you in the settings. Useful for docked players playing on a keyboard and mouse setup.
The beta update also includes the same bug fixes found in the stable version, including the ones about repeated update prompts, the out-of-box wizard, and blurry event images. On top of that, Valve improved the speed of Steam client updates. Before, some updates could take minutes to finish when they were supposed to take only a few seconds. This change helps make the update process much quicker and less frustrating.
