Valve has just rolled out SteamOS 3.7.5 Preview, and unlike the recent patches for “certain non-Steam devices”, this one is focused on prepping for the arrival of the SteamOS-powered Lenovo Legion Go S. According to the patch notes, the update adds trackpad support for the Legion Go S, an obvious nod to the small trackpad on the right side of the device. It's the clearest sign yet that Valve is putting the finishing touches in place as the first non-Valve SteamOS handheld nears release.

Earlier this year, Lenovo launched the Windows version of the Legion Go S and confirmed that a SteamOS variant would follow in May. Preorders for the SteamOS edition went live last month with two models: the Ryzen Z2 Go and the Ryzen Z1 Extreme, priced at $549 and $749, respectively. But it didn't take long for pricing to shift, with ongoing trade tariff issues bumping the handhelds to $599 and $829.

SteamOS 3.7.0 arrives soon

With Valve now prepping SteamOS support for the Lenovo Legion Go S specifically, a widespread release is drawing close, which is great news for other non-Valve handhelds like the ROG Ally and Ally X, despite ASUS already suggesting that they’re sticking to Windows. While the Legion Go has been an excellent alternative to the Steam Deck, one of the main points of criticism has been its lack of SteamOS support, a concern that is now set to be addressed as the SteamOS variant Legion Go S arrives.

That said, the update also brings several fixes, including support for DualShock 3 controllers and patches for regressions that caused black frames between the boot logo and animation, as well as a bug that broke the CPU power display in the performance overlay. You can grab the update through System Settings on your Steam Deck by making sure your update channel is set to Preview. Here are the patch notes in detail:

General

  • Added trackpad support for the Legion Go S
  • Fixed connecting DualShock 3 controllers over bluetooth once initially paired via USB
  • Fixed a regression from earlier 3.7 releases causing several black frames between the boot logo and boot animation
  • Fixed a regression from earlier 3.7 releases breaking the CPU power display in the performance overlay
