While Apple is not expected to reveal new hardware during the upcoming WWDC 2024 event, we still have leaks and rumors coming to the surface, giving us a hint of what we can expect to see in the next iPhone. And now, according to the latest leak, the iPhone 16 Pro Max could be the biggest one yet. It is expected to boast a larger display compared to its predecessor, the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Expected screen size of the iPhone 16 Pro Max
Apple has been gradually increasing screen sizes across its iPhone lineup for years. With each new model, we either see a small increase in the display’s size or thinner borders. But this time, Apple may lean toward a more significant jump, as the recent leaks suggest that the iPhone 16 Pro Max will feature a 6.9-inch display, up from the 6.7 inches of the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which is currently the biggest iPhone yet. If this leak turns out to be true, then the 16 Pro Max will dethrone its predecessor.
The leaks come from Chinese Weibo-based leakers UniverseIce and Instant Digital who have not only confirmed the screen size but have also shared visuals of the next iPhone’s dimensions. Here are the details we have so far.

Leaks also indicate Apple is working on shrinking the bezels – the borders around the screen. As you can see in the table above, the screen border of the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max is 1.2 mm and 1.15 mm, respectively. When compared to the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, which have a 1.71 mm and 1.55 mm border, respectively, this is a big change. This also means that the iPhone 16 Pro Max may have one of the narrowest screen frames in the world.
Is the bigger display going to be worth it?
Now, is it worth upgrading to the iPhone 16 Pro Max only for the bigger display? Well, this depends. If you look at the image below, which was shared by UniverseIce, the 16 Pro Max definitely looks bigger than the 15 Pro Max thanks to the biggesr display and smaller borders. And if you’re upgrading from an older model like the 12 Pro Max or the 13 Pro Max, the difference will be significant.
However, it is important to keep in mind that a larger screen likely translates to a heavier phone. While the exact weight difference isn’t confirmed, it’s something to consider if you prefer a phone that feels light in hand. Also, it is worth noting that the bigger screen size could be linked to Apple’s rumored advancements in battery technology. A larger phone might house a bigger battery, as a smaller battery will get drained instantly.
