Like Nvidia, AMD isn’t ready to ditch 8GB VRAM yet, leak suggests

Nvidia was widely criticised for releasing versions of its RTX 5060 Ti and RTX 5060 graphics cards with only 8GB of VRAM. Despite this, AMD seems to be planning to provide an 8GB version of the planned RX 9060 XT.
The AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT is still to be officially announced, but that has not stopped rumors from spreading about what AMD has planned. Previously, rumors circulated that AMD was planning to quietly cancel the 8GB version, but a new report suggests this isn't the case.
8GB RX 9060 XT won’t be canceled after all, says leak
Taiwanese publication Benchlife has a solid track record when it comes to reporting on upcoming hardware, and it says that AMD has no plans to cancel the 8GB variant of the RX 9060 XT. Benchlife says it has confirmed this using reliable sources connected to AMD board partners. According to these industry insiders, some RX 9060 XT cards with the 8GB memory configuration have already been produced.
“As for the AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT 8GB version, reliable sources have confirmed that there are currently no plans to halt supply or cancel the product.” Benchlife wrote [translated], “The reports circulating in the market are just rumors, mainly triggered by the reaction to the GeForce RTX 5060 Ti, as previously mentioned.”
It seems Nvidia was aware that the GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 8GB would not be popular. It was even alleged that Nvidia tried to block reviewers from getting hold of review units for testing, for fear of the backlash generated by negative reviews. You may have noticed that many day-one reviews were for the 16GB card, though we did get to see how the two variants compare, thanks to one Chinese reviewer.
With this example in front of them, it seemed fairly logical that AMD would change its approach. It is possible that the rumor wasn't entirely without merit, and the 8GB version will be limited to pre-built systems or other specific applications. We’ll have to wait and see; AMD is expected to announce the RX 9060 XT at Computex this May.
