ASUS releases updates for its ROG Ally handhelds from time to time, and these updates often bring performance boosts, new features, and important fixes. This week, ASUS rolled out one of the biggest updates yet, and it covers every handheld in the ROG Ally lineup. That includes the original ROG Ally, the Ally X, and the newly released ROG Xbox Ally models.

What does the ROG Ally update offer?

The main highlight is the new version of Armoury Crate SE (ACSE 2.1.15.0). This version brings expanded CPU and power options, especially for the ROG Xbox Ally X. On the flagship Xbox model, users can now adjust P-cores and E-cores directly from the Performance menu, giving more control over how the device handles demanding games.

ASUS also added an easy way to enter or exit full-screen mode using key bindings, which is useful for quick switching in games or apps. Notably, AMD RSR (Radeon Super Resolution) for upscaling has been disabled by default on the new Xbox (RC73) models.

New features and improvements:

  • Added CPU P-core / E-core options under Performance → More Settings page (ROG Xbox Ally X RC73XA only).
  • Added an option to Enter or Exit the full screen experience using key bindings under Keymap → Action.
  • Added an Update Notification feature in Command Center.
  • Integrated AMD Radeon™ Chill behavior into the FPS Limiter function.
  • Adjusted FPS Limiter option from 45 → 40 FPS to better align with the device’s 120hz panel refresh rate.
  • Changed the bottom bar button color to a gray color design.
  • Added Windows Power Mode options to the Manual Operating Mode page.
  • Improved gyro aiming algorithm to enhance precision with the gyro sensor.

Bug fixes:

  • Enhanced the online update process.
  • AMD RSR is now set to Off by default for RC73 models.
  • Added support for Wi-Fi captive portals.
  • Changed the default sleep time from Never to 5 minutes.

A helpful new addition is the Update Notification feature inside the Command Center. This makes it easier to know when new patches are available. ASUS also improved the FPS Limiter by aligning it better with the handheld’s 120Hz screen, adjusting it from 45 FPS to 40 FPS. AMD Radeon Chill features were also integrated into the FPS Limiter to help reduce power usage when possible.

The update also brings gyro aiming improvements, making it more accurate and smoother. Windows Power Mode options are now available in Manual Mode, adding another layer of control for users who like tweaking their settings. ASUS fixed various bugs, too, including online update issues and input problems. They also changed the default sleep time from “Never” to five minutes to help save battery.

For the ROG Xbox Ally (RC73YA), ASUS released new MCU, BIOS, power delivery firmware, and GPU driver updates. These upgrades improve power consumption, fix Cloud Recovery issues, refine BIOS update behavior, and boost gaming performance. The GPU driver update also fixes an audio issue related to Auto Super Resolution.

The ROG Xbox Ally X (RC73XA) received its own set of updates as well. These include improved haptics for the Impulse Triggers, a more stable Cloud Recovery experience, better touch panel stability, and general firmware improvements. The device also gets the same AMD GPU driver update and a new AMD chipset driver for better system performance.
