More benchmarks reveal new Nvidia hotfix driver can reduce stutters and massively boost your FPS

Last month, a Windows 11 update brought about performance issues in some games. While Microsoft did not acknowledge the problem, Nvidia acted quickly. They released a hotfix driver to fix the issue and restore normal performance for affected games.
Recently, a Reddit user with an RTX 5080 tested both the old driver, version 581.80, and the new hotfix driver, 581.94. They tried two games, Ghost of Tsushima and Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and saw clear improvements with the new driver. AC Shadows in particular could nearly double your FPS, based on the 4K benchmarks.
New Nvidia driver reduces stutters in League of Legends benchmark
Adding to the previous benchmarks, popular hardware analyst @harukaze5719 on X also tested the drivers and shared results, focusing on performance in League of Legends – a game which no half-decent GPU should have trouble running.
With the old driver, the average FPS was 226.7, but the 1% low FPS was only 7.6. After installing the hotfix, the average FPS jumped to 335.3, and the 1% low increased dramatically to 78.8. This is a huge improvement, showing that the hotfix not only raises average performance but also makes gameplay much smoother with fewer stutters. Nvidia didn’t reveal which games would be improved with the hotfix, but League certainly seems to be one of them.
Nvidia definitely deserves praise for quickly acknowledging the issue and releasing a working fix. It is, however, important to remember that this update does not make your PC more powerful. The hotfix only restores performance to the level it should have been before the Windows 11 update caused problems. So, you are not getting extra FPS beyond what your hardware should be capable of.

Another thing to note is that this is a hotfix driver. This means it does not yet appear in the official Nvidia App, so you won’t get a notification there. To install the hotfix manually, you need to download it directly from Nvidia’s official website. The fix will be added to the next official driver release, and the hotfix driver will be removed, but until then, it’s worth installing.
