More evidence of ASUS ROG VR headset rumored earlier this year surfaces online

The most recent Meta Quest headset was the Meta Quest 3S, and Meta has kept silent on what plans it might have for future models. Now, rumors that Meta is collaborating with another company to create a new headset have been renewed thanks to a job description at ASUS.
The Meta Quest 3S launched in October 2024 as a cut-down budget version of the Quest 3 headset. Since then, there has been little sign of a new headset from the company. Some leaks have claimed that two options for the ‘Quest 4' headset have been canceled, but other insiders suggest that Meta is working with ASUS to produce a new headset.
ASUS ROG VR headset in the works in partnership with Meta?
Rumors of a collaboration have been given weight by what appears to be a LinkedIn work experience description. This was spotted by tech blogger Lunayian on Twitter/X. It details that the UX designer has contributed “to product projects related to Meta HzOS.” This refers to ‘HorizonOS'. The VR-specific operating system that powers Meta headsets.
Back in January, Lunayian leaked news that ASUS ROG was working on a VR headset running the Meta Horizon OS. This headset was codenamed ‘Tarius' and could potentially be the first third-party HorizonOS headset on the market.
What is Meta working on?
According to UploadVR, Meta is itself working on a more lightweight headset code-named ‘Puffin'. Instead of being an all-in-one device like the Quest 3, the headset resembles a bulky pair of glasses, with the majority of the processing work being offloaded to a compute unit that resembles a hockey puck.
However, the in-house ‘Puffin' headset is not expected to reach the market until 2027 at the earliest. It is possible that third-party headsets such as the Tarius from ASUS ROG could fill in this gap in the market.
Of course, until such time as Meta or ASUS makes an official announcement, this must be taken with a grain of salt.
