MSI is one of the board partners for the upcoming RTX 50-series cards, including the RTX 5090. Unlike ASUS, Gigabyte, and a few other board partners, the company won’t be launching any upcoming AMD Radeon or Intel Arc Battlemage GPUs, as they’ll be working exclusively with Nvidia. However, if you were planning to get the MSI variant of the flagship GPU on launch day, you’ll be disappointed to learn that MSI has delayed the shipping date of their RTX 5090 model in the US.

MSI RTX 5090 won’t be available in the official US store until February 6

While other companies like ASUS and Gigabyte have not talked about any delays for their cards, MSI will be releasing the RTX 5090 later than expected. The card was originally supposed to be available in the official MSI US store on January 30, 2025, but MSI has now pushed the date back to February 6, 2025.

In a recent update shared on MSI’s official Discord server, the company confirmed that customers can still place preorders for the RTX 5090 starting on January 30 at 6 AM PST. However, the cards won't ship out until February 6. The delay only affects the RTX 5090, while the RTX 5080 will remain on schedule, launching and shipping on January 30 as planned.

StinceBuilt, a company that makes custom prebuilt gaming PCs, also shared the news on their X account that they won't be getting their stock of MSI RTX 5090 cards until February 6. They confirmed this with similar companies, meaning that they also won’t be receiving any MSI RTX 5090 stock on launch day.

Just recently, MSI China also confirmed that the RTX 50-series stock will be limited starting January 30. Previous reports also suggested that it will be very difficult to grab an RTX 5090 and 5080 on launch due to “extremely limited supply.” In any case, the stock issues surrounding the RTX 50-series appear to be bigger than expected, and it seems like getting your hands on one will take more time than many had anticipated.

Fans react

Based on this Reddit thread surrounding the news, the delay from MSI has put a little bit of a damper on the 50 series launch, with one person saying they “really wanted a 5090 or 5080 suprim from microcenter on launch day” – referring to MSI’s ‘SUPRIM’ model. The fact that you can still pre-order on the day and have your card shipped off a week later doesn’t seem too bad though. Another person adds that it will be hard to get a hold of these new cards “for a couple months” – “unless you live by a microcenter or get super lucky online”. It seems as if potential buyers aren’t too optimistic about their chances this launch.
