Last year, CD Projekt announced that Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, which includes the base game and its spy-thriller expansion Phantom Liberty, would be coming to Mac. Those with Macs featuring Apple silicon will be able to enjoy advanced features like path tracing, frame generation, and built-in Spatial Audio for even more immersive gameplay and stunning visuals. However, the announcement didn’t provide an exact release date, only mentioning an early next year window to look forward to.

But it seems like we’re getting closer to that unannounced launch date, as developers have recently added a few entries to the Steam version of Cyberpunk 2077, suggesting that the macOS version could be coming soon.

Steam changelog history reveals updates to Cyberpunk 2077

These changes were spotted on SteamDB, a website that tracks everything happening on Steam and logs all changes made to games. SteamDB revealed that in the Cyberpunk 2077 depots, the developers have added a ton of macOS depots, which when compared to the Windows depots, are enough to support the base game and every available localization option.

Additionally, if you check the launch options, you'll notice that CD Projekt has added a third option specifically for macOS devices. While it’s possible these changes occurred during the initial announcement and we just missed them, SteamDB also logs the time and date of each change. And as we thought, the Cyberpunk 2077 Steam changelog history shows that the macOS depots were added on January 25, 2025, and the launch option changes were made today.

CD Projekt might come forward with a release date soon

It's hard to dismiss these significant Steam details as “irrelevant,” especially since most of them were added just a few days ago. That said, with fans eagerly awaiting the Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition on Mac, it provides a solid indication that the developers are actively working on it and the launch will definitely happen this year. One thing to note is that the game will only be compatible with Macs featuring Apple Silicon, which includes specific models such as:

  • MacBook Pro introduced in 2021 or later, plus MacBook Pro (13-inch, M1, 2020)
  • MacBook Air introduced in 2022 or later, plus MacBook Air (M1, 2020)
  • iMac introduced in 2021 or later
  • Mac mini introduced in 2020 or later
  • Mac Studio introduced in 2022 or later
  • Mac Pro introduced in 2023
